OMR that was the exact vibe I was getting during the game and with 4 minutes left felt like the final push if Mchale were to sub in Harden for Anderson and Parsons for Trob keeping fino, smith and bev on the floor. His ego probably got the best of him but who knows, maybe its something internal that lies much deeper than we all know. As much bashing he gets of how incompetent he is, I can assure you he knew adjustments needed to be made. When he does it are sometimes questionable but not doing it at all was definitely a statement made.
McHale is not good at any aspect of coaching. I still can't believe we signed him after he did absolutely nothing coaching the T-Wolves
Morey is GM of the year for great moves but the coach is terrible This is the most underperforming team in the league by pythagorean expected wins Those who have seen every game have seen coaching single handedly lose 6-8 games. Worst record in the league in games within 7 points McFail is more like the LA coach before Phil Jackson who underperformed despite the great roster Jerry West put together Right now this team is like the movie Moneyball. Analytical GM, with stubborn eye test coaches misusing the roster and rotations.
Exactly. If all the coaching candidates were given a level playing field Mchale would not have been hired. Would not even make it to the short list.
Fair enough, I'll bite. Why are you suggesting that there wasn't a "level playing field" when McHale was hired?
Look at his resume' and it will speak for itself. Character reference from the timberwolves organization would have definitely been informative as well. Nothing justifies his hiring except the personal connection: Morey was a former Assistant GM of Danny Ainge to whom he just traded Garnett.
I mean best I can tell you are either trying to say that Morey hired McHale because he played on the Celtics with Danny Ainge who was Morey's former boss, or you are trying to say that Morey hired him because he traded Garnett to Ainge.....either way it is breathtakingly ridiculous analysis.
Using Morey's analytics approach what in kevin mchale's resume' made him the best candidate for coach?
After dealing with Adelman's open rebellion, I imagine that Morey just wanted a coach that was willing to work with him rather than against him. Having been a GM before, McHale was a lot more willing to work with a GM because he knew what it was like. I really don't think that a trade in 07 that helped out Morey's former boss had ANYTHING to do with it.
Didn't I just tell you? Morey wanted someone who was willing to work with him. McHale had experience being a GM thus he'd be more willing to work with a GM rather than against him. Also it's important to remember that he was being hired as a rebuilding coach, a guy to take the lumps when the team isn't very good and to be fired and replaced once the team gets built. They weren't going to hire some huge name to do that, can you imagine how most coaches would react to having both their starting AND backup PF traded away at the deadline? McHale was willing to work with situations like that, most coaches wouldn't be.
Also important, how many coaches are you going to bring in and force them to take on Chris Finch as an assistant and likely future replacement? Probably not many.
Guys, this thread was started on 04-19-2012. That means a lot of people were complaining about him last season as well. This isn't a new thing. McHale failed us last season, and he's doing his best to fail us again.
So it definitely wasn't his coaching. Coaching is a technical skill which is very underrated in the success of the team. Basically, Mchale wasn't hired for his competence and track record for coaching but because he was willing to be a toady. And Morey's Boston celtics background had nothing to do with his familiarity with Mchale?
They can't do that anymore cuz teams have figured them out and get back quickly on transition defense. Teams are forcing the Rockets to play half court and it's up to Mchale to set them up with some half court plays (and I mean proper plays, not the simple and predictable ones they are running now).
