This is also a sign of his inability to coach. If you have to throw a game away to teach the starters a lesson, you have no business being a coach in the first place.

Strange. That's not what I saw. Somehow the starters looked gassed from the opening tip, and the bench played with a lot of energy.

And its not like Bev shut down bayless or Conley when he was on the floor. Both shot 50% or better against him. Its the front court that killed us

We lose, if starters come back in: McFail, why didn't you rest our starters!!!

I loved the decision to let them rest up for the Clips in our house. They are playing a tough physical game in Santone so we will have some extra energy to bring to TC tomorrow. Having said that, James really needs more defensive awareness. He can play defense but losing his guy in inexcusable, regardless of conserving energy for offense. Loved the bench out there closing out as well, they got some time playing with the starters of the other team so that could possible increase their knowledge of what to do in certain situations. Not too mad. They were making shots, driving hard, and playing the bigs to draw fouls down low and we weren't for the most part.

    I found this very surprising.

I can't remember the last time I remember color commentators questioning a coach's rotations, and they basically questioned McHale's the entire 4th quarter.

Sitting Asik (Our main big), Parsons, Harden AND Lin for the entire 4th, when the lead was cut to 9 with 6 minutes left?

Maybe some folks believe there was a point to be made, but in my opinion it's a poor coaching decision, especially with the season winding down towards the play offs.

The Starters are smart enough to learn from their mistakes. That's what film and practice is for... showing them their mistakes and working on them. Their play has actually improved all season. Trying to send some kind of "message" to the Starters is silly, especially against a top 5 team like Memphis where a win was far from certain.

I have no idea what McHale thinks he's doing, but the bench was playing well against the Memphis bench, NOT the Memphis starting unit. To think that the "hot hand" would extend against Memphis' full line up borders on fantasy.

Harden, Lin, Asik and Parsons are all hypercompetitive. They don't need these sort of juvenile mind games to get them motivated.

I wonder how he's going to explain this to the media...

That's what a lot of LOFs been puzzling for so long with Lin. He was playing well and shooting well. Lin was also shooting well in the first half but started clunking things in the 2nd half.

His lack of athleticism really showing these last few games. His offensive ways of scoring are horribly limited

Parsons played absolutely terrible defense. He shot it fine but he was late on a bunch of help rotations. He deserved benching more than anyone. At least we know zbo and gasol are just good and tough to stop. No excuse for mental laziness.

Think what he was saying is those stats are garbage. +/- is mostly garbage.

Even so, Harden, Lin, and Parsons have made come backs against better teams and won.

What's wrong with +/- it to show which unit on the floor was more effective?

It's frustrating at times to watch. Even though they are young, they are talented and I feel that if they weren't expected to score just based off of free-wheeling and had more structure on offense we could be playing better.
Of course defense needs to be shored-up also.

I sense that Morey knows there is a large group wanting McHale gone, but I think Morey is stubborn on this issue and doesn't want to eat crow. I think it will be to the Rocket's detriment also. Also to the people hoping JVG would come back. There are more coaches out there than the just the ones that have coached the Rockets. Anyways, that guy was an offensively challenged tyrant. It would be a lateral coaching move. I also credit his defensive "prowess" to Tom Thibodeau <------can't believe this talent got away from our organization.

If Mchale is going to bench all his starters based on their efforts, he should have benched himself a long time ago for his crappy substitution patterns.
