Maybe this lady just got flustered and misrepresented PP. That doesn't seem very likely considering the bill she is discussing. I can't believe anyone would try to take this stance.

That position seems very ill-considered. I'll have to assume that this Alisa Snow is just a complete dumb-ass from everything in this article, unless and until Planned Parenthood comes out and confirms this position.

I thought maybe she was misrepresenting PP, but the bill she is there to discuss is for forcing abortionists to provide medical care to babies who survive an abortion. It's not like these questions caught her off guard. She planned and prepared to discuss this very question.

She wasn't caught off-guard, but she could have just been a dumb-ass and gone rogue. I say that because (1) the position is bad for PP, (2) the legislators are taken by surprise, (3) this is not how a big organization would go about messaging a strategic shift in its public policy positions, (4) she quails when asked if the baby would be the patient once born.

I'm sure people are asking the PP mothership all kinds of questions about it, and we can wait for the official response. I'm betting this lady is fired next week.

I second that. The state is allowed to practice conditional post-birth abortion. We should be allowed to practice post-birth abortion until they're at least 18. They're parasites up until then anyway. The state aborts a ton of people they consider parasites to society after that point, so I don't see what's up with all of the fuss.

She should have said her civil rights are violated by having a white male christian ask her that question and walked away......

How likely is this scenario? Does this happen like 5 times a year?

I dunno, it's the position they take that makes it awful. This completely throws out the 'woman's body, woman's choice' argument since post-birth the woman's body isn't a factor.

I find it really strange that she feels the decision of what should happen to a baby post-birth is between 'the patient (the mother) and her doctor'. The father doesn't get a say at this point? why?

Seems unlikely. If she had 'gone rogue' , PP would immediately come out and say so wouldn't they? I haven't seen any statements from PP saying such.

Newly born infants have been allowed to die under certain other conditions. If the baby requires additional heroic measures or continuous mechanized life support to survive, I don't know if that's a distinct situation. She also conceded that she was not a doctor and possibly had no experience or expertise conducting abortions; and she didn't explicitly answer that she supported completing an unsuccessful abortion.

The phrase "post-birth abortion" keeps reminding me of that South Park episode where Cartman's mom wants to get a 42nd trimester abortion, only to later realize that she had confused the words "abortion" and "adoption."

It would be wrong to take the words of one person and ascribe them as the official position of Planned Parenthood.

It's systemic to this board and politics in general. Find one outlier statement or act and ascribe it to the entire group, as a means of discrediting them.

Interestingly enough, Barack Obama shares the views of this woman. As a state senator he blocked a bill to protect infants born alive in botched abortions. Of course, 99% of the population is unaware of this.

What? Is that right? Wow, truly disgusting. I didn't think much of Barack before, but between this and his making fun of Special Olympians, the guy is truly scum.
