The denomination I was raised in (UCC) never gave stuff up for Lent, and I am an atheist.

That being said, I will occasionally give up certain comforts, and I admire and applaud those who take their faith seriously enough to make a commitment like this.

To be fair, Catholicism is virtually nonexistent in some areas of the country.

 

I guess. But then again I figure people who watch ATH would know what Ash Wednesday is.

 

Why'd you give up complex carbs? Simple carbs are the blood sugar-spiking fat-making devils, no?

 

I gave up alcohol but I'm confused as to when we can break fast. Today or Sunday?

 

Today.

I tried being more patient while driving. That is really hard as I seem to be a magnet for stupid drivers.

 

Gave up beer and chips. Sunday dinner... nachos with a side of Shiner.

 

not sure yet. already had fast food this morning...need to think harder.

Does that mean you ate meat on Sundays? Otherwise you gave up meat for more than 40 days.

 

I gave up hate! Hate towards anything out of my control. Hate towards the lakers and the Jazz(replaced those feelings of hatred with the feelings of "poor child":grin

 

I didn't do too well on mine. Disappointed in myself, gotta do a better job next year.
