Beverley is good, an above average backup with potential to be a starter. But until he gets that PER using starter minutes, these Lin-Beverley comparisons are stupid. It's like how fans used to use the Lin PER48 stat when he was on GSW to argue he was better than Rondo
TD never turned the ball over neither. Mostly because he'd pick up his dribble and chuck a 3 at the first sign of pressure. I'd rather take the TO's with the win too if the 1 is getting in the paint and breaking down the D. But if the 1 is getting multiple TO's on subsequent possessions like Lin did in the first, he's not protecting the ball and needs to be pulled
Exactly. Beverley is a backup. He's not good enough to be a starter right now. He's supposed to come in for 6-7 minutes and bring energy and defense. But if you play him longer, you start to see some diminishing returns. Like last night, he scored like 7 points within his first 8 or so minutes. But after that, he was pretty ineffective. Yea he brings defense, but Jeremy was also playing great D on Hill. Jeremy is a better team defender, so the Rockets couldve used him especially. And since Harden couldnt hit anything, the one thing you needed was offense, which Jeremy couldve brought. Not to mention Jeremy was rested sitting on the bench while Bev was prob tired as hell and couldnt do much offensively after his first few buckets. Clearly they shouldve brought Lin back, especially in the 4th, but obviously Mchale doesnt recognize this
There's no way to recreate it with current data because we have no idea what replacement value the author used. There are countless different ways to get replacement value. Some people just set it at an arbitrary level. Some people look at minutes per game. Some people look at how deep someone is on the bench. The only thing we can look at is Lin's dRAPM and how it's changed and what it is now.
hahaha comeon BEV is a backup, hasn't proven anything really. Remember that mchale experiment where he ran Beverly with no starters? BIG FAIL . He give to him that he has good handles and defends well in certain situations (like TD), but he cannot create. and the pace of the game slows down to a halfcourt pace and we get owned. sorry i rather we run and gun. if mchale rotates the players resting them properly, i believe we can sustain the pace. but right now he is on crazy crusade to run certain players on long minutes based on hunches, and seemingly what he sees . i really feel that this is regressive and feels like the earlier days when harden was runned till he was gassed on the 4th. Sampson days.
What's funny is the same people posting this moronic **** are the same ones who thought Machado and Douglas were going to be starters. Really, no one should listen to these idiots, they don't have a ****ing clue what they are talking about. Beverley is a MARGINALLY better defender than Lin, probably because he faces backups for the most part. Lin is a much better player than Beverly overall. What a stupid ****ing thread.
Machado, Beverley, and Douglas are all better than Lin and that's not to say they're great players. Lin is just that bad. I've never seen such terrible handles on a PG at any level, even high school. Just getting it up past halfcourt is an adventure for Lin.
If you would have said Lin was inconsistent, Lin has to many turnovers or that you think Beverley plays better D than Lin I could easily understand your point. But to just come out and say that Lin plays bad D is just wrong in my opinion. I watched a little bit of Linsanity but not very much since I really didn't care what the Knicks where doing and honestly I wanted them to loose because I was tired of hearing about Linsanity and how the Rockets let Lin go. I really didn't know what to expect from Lin this year, I thought he would play bad D so I watched very closely and paid close attention to how he played D in every game. Like I have said before, there are a few pg's that he has trouble with but every body has trouble with somebody unless your name is Lebron. Besides those few players he has played good defense this year. I could see where he is a little better than Beverley, equal to Beverley or a little worse than Beverley but he is definitely not a bad defensive player.
I really hope McHell would start Beverley for a streak of games to see what his true color is. If he is good, then start him permanently. Plain and simple. So people can get over this stupid argument and concentrate in supportting our Rockets.
I think the PG argument will still be big until late December next season. By then, Lin should have separated himself better from Beverley. I highly expect Lin's three pointer to be deadly next season. With his ability to facilitate, he will be a very nice weapon on offense.
Mchale give Beverley chance to play more minutes than Lin on last game. Lin almost play like a backup. But Beverley did not shine. What could be the reason to start him?
One problem I see with this is that if it doesn't pan out then u have lin on the bench who's probably lost every shred of confidence and prob is in no position to takeover starting pg duties. This is not desirable with the playoffs so close. U either start lin permanently or u start bev permanently.
in the last two months he's shooting 41% from behind the arc. why isn't he a very nice weapon on offense already?
He is, but I think he will be more so next season. I don't see every game, but he still seems to hesitate on spot up threes. also, volume matters. He needs to hit more per game. When he is attempting 5 threes a night at a good percentage is when he will be a force.
The PG job in McHale's system is to distribute the ball. He needs to get DMo, Parsons, and Asik involved (Harden will always get his). Unfortunately, when those 3 aren't hitting, the PG looks REALLY bad. IMO, PB isn't asked to create for others. He comes off the bench, provides some spark, plays good D, and hits open jumpers.
