I tried the Holiday Cheer this Christmas and really liked it. I haven't seen the Ruby Red here in the Upper Midwest yet but if I see it I will try it.
I'm a big fan of Ruby but it's definitely not for everyone. I've been hooked on Live Oak Schwarzbier lately. Gonna be hard to reincorporate Redbird into the gameplan.
First let me say I am a Texan, I love Texas... but..... The best beer in the world arguably is from craft breweries, mostly in the midwest, which because of limited distribution is not available in Texas or very limited. For example Three Floyd's is probably the best brewery in the world and is located in Indiana, thus it has very limited distribution. Other's include Bells, Founder's, Hill Farmstead and Darkhorse....
When I first saw this picture I was like WTF are you doing in your bathroom lol! Anyways, this my favorite Shiner by far. My friend is the manager at Specs on Smith St. and he saves me a case every year. I like the holiday cheer also but no where near as much as the Ruby.
This year's Holiday Cheer was great. In years before I wasn't a fan but this past year's batch was very good. Everything else by Shiner I just don't like. Shiner Bock is an iconic beer, but I don't like any of their seasonals very much. I tried a Ruby Redbird once and I swear the "grapefruit" hint was more like dishwater. Maybe it was a bad head, so maybe I owe it another test. But no lies... the Divine Reserve 13 is the best thing St. Arnold's has ever done. It is very high on beeradvocate right now. Belgian quad are you freaking kidding me. For a guy who is absolutely obsessed with good belgian tripels (Duvel, Three Philosophers, etc), this is so t***. Have a crawfish boil planned for next weekend. Have 4 bottles, and 1 bomber of DR13 and 2 bombers of 6 month aged Pumpkinator. Decisions, decisions.
so what you are also saying is, you can't get good beer in louisiana or florida either, is that correct?
What I am saying is that there is a far better high end beer selection in the mid west than in Texas, because of the high quality craft breweries in the midwest. They are simply not available in many cases beyond their regional areas.
so, new york and california are also lacking good beer? as long as we are not alone i can live with being deprived and drinking ****ty beer
