heh, this is naive, only a matter of time before they are compelled to resistance is futile, disapproval of gay marriage will not be tolerated
Of course not. But Christian schools are being forced to pay for contraception. I guess freedom of religion is a thing of the past. Sad.
Nice argument. Churches aren't required to marry heterosexuals today.....why would they be required to marry homosexuals? Just like the guy running the drive through wedding chapel isn't required to marry anyone. Or my idiot brother who got ordained online isn't required to marry anyone. But by all means, please, keep grasping. You are aware that many people get married outside of a church, aren't you?
Missionaries can say whatever they want to people. But in the end, the people will either accept or turn away from the message. No missionary can force a person to accept Christianity if the person refuses it.
Churches don't marry anyone, so this is irrelevant. Pastors, priests, ordained ministers, ect.. are not a regulated body outside of their denomination. Further, these same individuals often refuse to marry people that they believe shouldn't be together. The whole gay marriage thing is ridiculous. If a couple feels they need kudos from the government or a church to feel "accepted", they probably shouldn't be getting legally bonded together in the first place. There are many other circumstances where people face the same legal issues as gays, but these are never addressed...nor are they once gay marriage becomes standard. If gays want the legal hell that straight people rope themselves into to feel accepted, then by all means, let them suffer and pay the thousands in lawyer fees straight people face.
I hope the Boy Scouts continue to stand for traditional marriage because they have every right to. Gay activists have to invade every institution that disagrees with them - why? It's embarrassing and does absolutely nothing to advance their "cause."
What an ignorant generalization. Straight marriages have many benefits that gay marriages do not have. For example military spouses have access to the same healthcare as their husband/wife. Gay spouses..... nope. You don't see how gay couples could possibly want to fight for such things?
The fight for bennies and tax preferences, the civil rights struggle of our time, right up there with slavery and Jim Crow. For some reason I can't get motivated to take to the streets and march. This is an incremental effort. Only a matter of time before a judge rules a church can't discriminate based on sexual orientation as far as who they marry.
Marriage benefits were often originally designed for a nuclear family. It wasn't about "being straight" but more about covering family with kids and women who stayed home and didn't work. My personal opinion is that there shouldn't be special breaks for married people, regardless of sexual orientation, or lack of. Im ok with the government recognizing a "union" between two people, but again, it should have nothing to do with sexual orientation. Marriage was intended to be "till death do us part". This is clearly not the case anymore and the "catch all" marriage right is severely flawed, especially for straight people.
We shall not rest until gay military spouses get health benefits. This is the most pressing issue in the country right now. We shall overcome.
and you don't have to take to the streets and march. Supreme Court will rule one way or the other with or without your marching. Acting like this has an opportunity cost is ridiculous. My facebook feed is flooded with photos such as this picture below acting as if this movement is somehow taking time away from more important issues.
Its just not that simple. Again, churches don't marry people. Some churches are owned by the congregation, or by the pastor or the denomination. Essentially, its a business. Businesses can discriminate. They can be threatened to lose their tax exempt status, but even then, it would be difficult.
