If that's true then why not stay with L.A.. Next year everyone is off the books and they have the room to sign Lebron plus another secondary star.

You don't think the Lakers our telling him that. Kobe is not going to be there after 2014.

In fact if the Lakers do not believe they will be in a a serious championship hunt in 2014 Kobe could be amnestied. The Lakers stand to lose 85 million keeping Kobe next year. Mark Cuban was right amnesty is the smartest thing the Lakers can do. And make no mistake about it if the Lakers are one and done they will seriously consider dumping Kobe this summer. Dwight Howard is their franchise player and you can be sure they are making him aware of it everyday.

They didn't give up Bynum for a 1 year rental. Yeah we can offer a few more wins early on but Lebron will be available 2014 and LA is got to be on his short list of next destinations. Howard and Lebron would be bigger than Shaq and Kobe and rival kareem and magic. You can bet LA has made Howard aware of this.

He will not walk unless they do something stupid like say extend Kobe or insult Howard. So unless the Lakers win a championship or at least make it to the finals we may have seen the last of Kobe as a Laker and the changing of the guard. Mark Cuban knows that which is why when Kobe snapped back "Amnesty that" Cuban tweeted back "Props to Kobe for a good tweet". He wants to entice Kobe to sign with Dallas next year. You can bet he won't be the only one standing in line for that deal.

The bottom line is anyone who thinks Howard is walking through those Rocket doors is in for a big disappointment. We have a better chance of getting Kevin Love but don't expect that either. (I actually would prefer him but that's another story)

First don't believe everything Howard says. he is a known liar. Second if the Lakers sign Lebron in 2014 who has a better future. Yeah we have Harden and a beard in the hand is better than 2 in the Bush. But the prospect of lebron is like 100 birds and being in LA he will definitely get a lot more bush and Hollywood Bush at that.

While i know Dwight too be a liar, it seems sincere and royally logical for him to place future as a high priority... For all his mental flaws, he just wants to win...

As for Lebron,i don't see him ever leaving Miami, unless its to go back to Cleveland... He regrets the decision and had a great thing going... He'll opt out, but only for more money and higher increases...

If Dwight is as concerned about winning as he reportedly is, it's quite a risk to stay in LA on the hopes that they maybe can convince someone else in a year. Not saying it couldn't work, but it's not an open-and-shut case for Dwight. The last time a major market team told the world they were going after LeBron and could "certainly" get it done, they ended up whiffing and signing Amare Stoudemire to a max deal instead. Dwight and his team know very well how risky it is to be completely dependent on cap room and the whim of a marquee free agent.

By the way, I highly doubt LeBron has any interest in the Lakers. I doubt he wants to follow Kobe in Los Angeles for much the same reason he didn't want to follow Jordan in Chicago. He seems concerned with crafting his own legacy. I'd be very surprised if he didn't re-sign in Miami (most money + management he's comfortable with) or go back to Cleveland to team up with Kyrie and attempt to right a wrong.

Pacers are eating us alive inside the paint. 20 points already in the 1st quarter in the paint. Yet some would rather find a backup Center for Asik to play spot minutes than to have Dwight Howard protecting the rim.

    Goodness...

Dwight Howard 12 points / 11 rebounds / 4 blocks... in the first half. Still 3 minutes left in the second.

Lmao at homers who think Asik is even in the same level as Dwight.

Let the Indy game serve as notice for why we need Dwight.

I agree. Those who think we don't need him only look at how well Smith performed and he is Dwight extra lite. Just look at how well Lin and Asik teamed up in the 2nd half and Imagine if that was Howard. Everything is better with Howard. I am definitely on the get Dwight Howard bandwagon.

That being said anyone who thinks Howard will easily walk away from 30 million from any team is fooling themselves. And the Lakers are not any team they are probably the most heralded team in the league. They are without a doubt one of the most desirable teams to play for. No one can offer more glitz and fame. People give up money to play for them. Which brings up another point in 2014 the Lakers will have enough to offer another max contract player.

An added thought if CAT thinks Lebron won't consider going to LA he is sadly mistaken. Lebron has shown he will go anywhere he thinks serves his purpose. he has said he wants to be a billionaire and what better way to get there than LA. Yeah he loses a few million but unlike Howard he makes 40 million a year in endorsements. His fame will only explode in LA if they can win. And as for management management will do whatever it takes to make him happy. They always do. It's just the way it is for superstars and Lebron is the superstar of superstars. Plus if Dwight can play with Kobe, Lebron will be a piece of cake.

So wish we could get Dwight.. would love it if we did... think the chances are slim and none.

Yeah, tonight I was thinking Dwight over and over again. (SMH) We wouldn't have had the issues we had with him. I wonder if it's possible to have both Howard and Asik in the paint and still have the same level of offensive output as we currently have. Obviously, we lose our 4th shooter but the numbers put up in the paint would be ridiculous off of pick and roll's and put backs!

Everybody wants to win, especially for players of Dwight's caliber. He wants to go down in history as one of the greatest players of all-time. Once he realised we can offer him a better chance of winning a championship, he will sign here.

There's no guarantees that LeBron will sign with the Lakers. But if he comes here with J-Smoove, we'll be an instant contender.

The Lakers are in a terrible position, Dwight will not want to get stuck on a team that is going downhill.

    Roy Hibbert tonight: 28 points / 13 rebounds / 11-17 FG

Against Dwight two weeks ago: 7 points / 10 rebounds / 3-12 FG

This doesn't mean anything. Asik played as good of defense tonight than he did 2 nights ago against Tim Duncan. Hibbert was just hitting some very tough shots.

Tim Duncan is in his 16th season

the reality of the situation is that Asik is terrible on the pick and roll, and has bad hands.

HaHa... Where have you been. The Lakers want to win championships as much as anyone. And they are in a money market that gives them the cash to do so. Plus they are in arguably the most desired team to play for in the NBA. True it is not for everyone but if you like fame and glory then LA is got to be high on your list.

Lebron loves both and Money. He has said he wants to be the richest athlete ever. yes he will throw away some bucks leaving LA but he makes 40 mil in endorsements and if he can win in LA that will only increase. There is no guarantee that Lebron will go anywhere but he has a history of leaving.

LA never goes downhill for long unlike the Rockets. They will buy a championship if they can money is not an object. Plus even if lebron doesn't sign in 2014 there are other players like Carmelo, Rudy Gay, Luol deng. Even so old vets like Paul Pierce and Nowitzki might sign for the vet minimum if they see a chance at a championship.

Who knows what will happen. But one thing is for certain the Lakers explaining how they will build a champion team around him and they are his best bet to beat Miami. They will pull out all stops to keep Howard and if Lebron is available they will pull out all stops to get him. In the end players know who they would want to play for and some would never play for LA but my guess is most would have LA high on their list.
