Don't call this a knee jerk because I've noticed this for the past 2 months but kept observing until now. Does anyone notice that Parsons is our barometer fo success. Whenever he plays well, we win. When he plays poorly, we lose. Contrary to the other post saying parsons isnt good enough, I believe this evidence is the total opposite. This proves how valuable he is that we depend on his play to win games. Parsons is awesome and I hope he continues to improve and become more consistent. His consistency = the rocket's consistency. harden is still our mvp but he has had good games that we have lost. Lin is the same in that his good games dont guarantee success and his bad games often dont affect us and we oull out the win. So is parsons our 2nd most valuable player then? Not lin, not asik?
Not really. He's had plenty of 20+ points games where we lost. He played well during our 7 game losing streak too.
Parsons is just another Delfino clone. They are almost the same type of player w/ almost the same stats based on /36:
Rk Player MP FG% 3P% TRB AST STL BLK PTS 1 James Harden 2612 .449 .377 4.5 5.5 1.8 0.4 24.6 3 Donatas Motiejunas 377 .477 .306 5.9 2.3 0.4 0.5 17.4 4 Patrick Patterson 1219 .519 .365 6.5 1.5 0.5 0.8 16.1 6 Toney Douglas 913 .395 .377 3.5 3.7 1.6 0.1 15.7 7 Chandler Parsons 2507 .479 .381 5.4 3.5 1.0 0.4 15.0 8 Carlos Delfino 1508 .410 .380 4.6 2.9 1.4 0.2 15.0 9 Marcus Morris 1154 .428 .381 6.8 1.5 0.8 0.5 14.5 10 Jeremy Lin 2254 .443 .332 3.5 6.8 2.0 0.4 14.5 11 Greg Smith 818 .639 .000 10.4 0.8 0.5 1.3 13.8 14 Omer Asik 2106 .533 14.1 1.1 0.7 1.3 12.2 16 Thomas Robinson 166 .511 .000 11.1 1.1 2.4 0.9 11.9 17 Patrick Beverley 466 .415 .406 5.6 6.4 2.4 0.8 11.6
http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2013.html The only difference? Parsons plays more min than Delfino.
Parsons is another average player with Jeremy Lin that will never fulfill whatever made up potential fans like to make up.
He's so overrated on this board it ain't even funny. I think Anderson can be better if not already if he was given the same opportunity and minutes that Parsons have. He's going to want a big payday when his contract is up but he's not worth it.

Rk Player TS% eFG% 2 Chandler Parsons .578 .561 5 Carlos Delfino .554 .539
Can't deny that Parsons has improved offensively from last season. He is more efficient than Delfino but not by much, since most of Delfino's shots came from 3's.
Reread what you posted. basically you are saying we need to upgrade to a ore consistent player. Our PF spot is a mess but when Parsons is off it's hard to recover. We need an upgrade to Paul George. Parsons is not Paul George and never will be. Yes he is a good defensive player.. Yes he can run the fastbreak well and Yes he looks good dunking the ball. But what he can't do is create for himself. He can't dribble and pull up and hit a jumper. He can't hit anything less than a wide open three. Teams know that now. They watched his hot streak where he was unbelievable and so they play him differently. They make him rush his shot. it's no coincidence that his hot streak ended. Teams guard him differently. His hot shooting got him on the radar and now they have the scouting report on him and his percentages have gone down to the point where he has only shot 20% over the last 6 games. DMo's even shooting 3's better and he is afraid to shoot. What's worse is he passes up open looks now. He has lost confidence and rarely does he get an open look like he did before. Plus his shot looks terrible. When is he going to fix that. And even if he tries to fix it what will be the outcome. Will he be a better 3 point shooter. Everything you said makes me think we need to go after a better small forward this offseason. How do we get Paul George. Lately I even miss Budinger and Battier. They are not the answers but definitely would be more consistent. Since I know we will not get Howard I wonder if a trade for Granger is feasible. He is an upgrade and Parsons could take Delfinos role. The question is what would we have to give up to get him. Of course if we could trade for kevin Love than parsons becomes more acceptable. But if we sign JSmoove parsons liabilities wil become even more apparent. it's why DMo continues to play over TRob. Parsons and TRob on the court together or even more of a nightmare. he is young so maybe all of this just temporary and they say one of the easiest thing to improve is 3 point shooting. let's hope that is true for parsons.
so if they have the same stats wouldn't you want to play the the younger player to develop his skills???
While their games are similar-ish, I think Parsons is much better at getting to the basket with the ball and cutting to the basket off the ball than Delfino is. Then, once he's at the basket, Parsons is better at finishing. I think part of the reason he gets more minutes than Delfino is because those skills are very useful with a team that wants to run a lot.
