http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2013/03/27/air-check-houston-edition/?ls=nbahpfull1 John Schuhmann critiques Worrell, Bullard, and Drexler. Comments?
I think it's clear that Schuhmann didn't like that the rockets announcer hadn't read his article, and aren't more stat oriented. He's really nit picking.
Agreed. Can't believe he is getting paid to comment/write on such miniscule mistakes by irrelevant people.
Lol exactly. I think it's fine for fans to b**** about commentators (though even then, who cares), but someone who is paid to write about basketball? Bro, who gives a ****? They're commentators who have no affect on the game. Can you not press mute? Problem solved.
I actually think that there's very good article waiting to be written about a ranking, review or comparison of all NBA announcers. I was disappointed to find out he was just nitpicking on ours, they're bad but not as much as he tries to portrait them. For how long do you guys think we're going to have this crew? The last couple of seasons I thought Worrell's retirement was fast approaching as he went senile at some points, but to his credit it doesn't seem to be occurring anymore. I think he's a lot of fun but I would welcome a more knowledgeable person, when he goes I'd like to see at least Clyde gone too.
I think i'm one of the few who enjoy Bill Worrell and Bull. Drexler I could do without, he's just not animated enough to be a commentator. Bull always pulls out some corny jokes, which i love, and idk, I think I just grew up with Worrell and his voice is just right.
Why is he bothering making an article about this lol? Has he done one for the Celtics? They have probably the worst commentators in the business.
funny to see that a writer is critiquing a broadcast team... Being in broadcasting is one of the most enviable jobs to have...Writers know that...and he just wanted to get on his pulpit and rip the Houston Broadcast team. I do hope that Bill, Clyde and Matt respond to this epic troll job by a writer...
Mostly I agree with his points. There's no doubt to me our guys have become top 5 announce teams in homerism in the last couple years. The complaint about PPG as an offensive measure is ridiculous though. Advanced metrics are for sportswriters and message boards. Every team presents the traditional stats only on its televised broadcast. And at the base of it, it's stupid to waste a whole column describing the homerism of an announce team if you're even not going to give any examples that go beyond the usual homerism of average examples. Those clips were ordinary homer filler that you could have pulled from at least one of the two broadcasts in EVERY NBA game all year.
I lived in Cleveland when Joe Tate owned the airwaves (for Cavs). He was beloved. And a friend of mine. But not a great and easy listen. It was when I finally understood the ties that bind between the local casters and the local populace. Fast forward to mid-90s. I was part of the judging for Houston's ad awards. The judging, itself, is done by professionals from outside the local district. This was when the Rox ran their 'I can't take anymore...' campaign. Well received locally. Discarded in a NewYorkMinute by the judges. It meant nothing to them. National critiques only matter when Vin Skully is behind the mic. Everyone else is just a yokel, or so the critiquers would have one believe.
Bill worell is a legend, a ****ing legend This man is some scrub who writes for the Nba website. Clyde bill and bull probably read this article and laughed, who the **** cares lol?
If I wasn't a houston fan I'd be astonished at how biased Worrell and Bullard are. Worrell at times sounds bitter when he doesn't like what's going on and Bullard can act like a little kid. I think we're all used to the homerism that it doesn't suprise us.
I emailed him and told him he's a crappy writer. Go ahead and do the same if you'd like. This guy needed to be held accountable for the crap he writes. jschuhmann.nba.com@gmail.com
