What does this have to do with legalizing gay marriage? You seem to still be fighting a fight from decades ago about whether being gay at all is legal. We've long moved past that.

Is it something I'm completely endorsing and wanting to happen? Probably not. Just my personal beliefs. Many agree with me, and many disagree with me.

Having said that....is it something that I am just vehemently against and do I passionately hate gays? Of course not. I think Christians who take that stance are the ones who contribute to Christianity being looked increasingly negatively on.

As I said....I'm a Christian, and while I'm very, VERY, proud of my religion, I am fully aware of the hypocrisy some people within Christianity show. I don't understand how some people (and this isn't just in Christianity, but many other religions, and including Atheism), can believe in something so strongly, then go ahead and passionately criticize others beliefs, but that's a story for another day. Religion will always be a hotly debated topic with no real end in sight...

If gay marriage is allowed, I don't have to react with a resounding "Yes!!! Finally!!!", but I also will not rue the day.

It will simply be something that I will not openly support, but also not openly criticize.

I hope that doesn't sound too wishy-washy or like I'm not taking a stance, but this is the best way I can describe myself.

What are the actual numbers of 'the' gays that want to get married -- are we even talking about one percent of the US population?

'The' gays marrying each other will ruin the pillars of American society.

These changes will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to those that disagree except make them angry, and most people are done caring about the anger of bigots.

That's the whole point. People are up in arms trying to prevent something that has zero point zero bearing on their lives.

Does that mean that you wouldn't attend a gay wedding?

I have always been for gay marriage simply as a rights issue, but I am also sick and tired of hearing about it. I will rejoice once it's fully legal and the debate is over just so we can move onto something else. The politics of gay marriage and abortion are so played out that I just want them to go away (although still be legal ;)).

This is of course you're opinion. Anyone who has a problem with your style of militancy is of course a bigot.

What I see is a good person who donates to charity monthly, has taken care of sick people her whole life, has raised a family, never gotten into any trouble in her life being forced with having to choose between her beliefs and her church.

You are either stubborn or ignorant. I'm not sure which yet.

This is the root of our disagreement: worldview. I believe that God established marriage between one man and one woman (here comes the hate). So it is my opinion that society does not define marriage - only God defines it. Secondly, my problem with homosexuality is that it results in a decline of traditional marriage. Homosexuality is sexual immorality; if you can have sex with a member of the same gender, then why can't you have sex with your child, or your brother, or your mother? Finally, it reflects a decline in society which is corrupt to begin with - society has slowly become more and more morally relativistic. Homosexuals often use personal freedom as an excuse for their deeds. With freedom comes the need for self-control, and homosexuals have none. Homosexuality is not a hereditary trait containing a certain phenotype; it is a destructive influence similar to p*rnography. Homosexuals feel the need to impose their beliefs on everyone; anyone who disagrees is homophobic and hateful. Homosexuality is not marriage and never will be.

No, anyone who believes that gays should be denied civil rights is a bigot. I am sorry if that offends you. You can call that my opinion...whatever. Old people are pretty set in their ways and this issue is certainly generational, so I cut them a little slack, but a bigoted view is still a bigoted view. I couldn't believe some of the racist things that came out of some of my older relatives' mouths when I was growing up. They lived "good" lives and never hurt anyone, but they still had bigoted ideas floating around in their heads.

If the country legalizing same sex marriage somehow degrades your grandmother's religion in her own mind, that's on her and it's not something I am concerned with in the slightest. Churches will eventually change their stances on gay marriage, and gays in general, as well. Religion rolls with the punches.

One could argue that I am stubborn ...the other...not so much.

That's fine and all, but the version of marriage that is being debated is the one that is, in fact, defined by the government. So if you don't care about that definition and think it's irrelevant, I don't see why you'd care if it's changed.

There are lots of things that result in the decline of traditional marriage - like adultery. Or divorce. Or being emotionally distant from your spouse. Does that mean these should be illegal too?

    Heterosexuals do the same.

And same again. It's also true with teens in general. Perhaps we should ban them too?

You're certainly entitled to your opinions, but you don't get to make up your own science.

It's not *anyone* who disagrees. For example, J Sizzle above doesn't support gay marriage, but I don't think people would call him homophobic. But I would argue that people who say things like "homosexuals have no self-control" are, by definition, homophobic.

I agree, but a lot of them see that as a historical hoax, to some extent. Seriously, many of these people (not to say "these posters" necessarily) really believe America is a purely Christian nation and that the "separation" talk is commie add-on revisionist evil nonsense.

    No, I'm not a Christian.

If there aren't any, that should have simply been your reply to him.
