Is it possible that Morey is doing nearly nothing this summer?

While I thought Harden was a pipedream it happened so who knows

Anyways pretty sure Daryl will be active I believe we have 2 second round draft picks (suns and knicks) this draft and of course all the cap space in the world.

The big thing is that with the new CBA it seems that pretty much you are locked into having only 2 stars on your team - 2 stars meaning two max contracts (not necessarily two stars) - and while you can have more than 2 max/near max deals after a few seasons you will be paying for it dearly with the luxury taxs and the progressively increasing penalties.

One thing we all know is that while Les Alexander is willing to pay the luxury tax for a championship product on the floor - historically he has not paid the luxury tax.

Meaning I find it very unlikely that any sort of Howard/Smith etc duo would be possible here in Houston since Howard deserves the max and Smith has indicated that he wants a big deal contract.

With the 2 max star concept in mind the guy I want to go after is Kevin Love -- injured and upset in Minnesota this year he has become the forgotten star (kind of the buy low Morey loves)

Now what I would hope Morey would do is this:

Send Dmo, 2 Future first to the Lakers (will save the lakers a lot of money and guarantees we wont go after Howard)

    Send Parsons to the Wolves

Lakers send Gasol to the Wolves

    Rockets receive Love

Lakers receive some young talent and future picks (something that they need after trading away so many) plus major cap relief. In a D'antoni system Dmo can run the floor really well and probably will compliment Howard a little better than Gasol who primarily (and should) play in the post

Wolves - its no secret from the way they've treated Love he is probably going to bounce at the first chance possible - and its the public dismissal of him too. They've wanted to pair up Rubio and Gasol for a long time now. Despite his age and recent injuries I still feel Gasol is a top 3 PF in the league and can help that young wolves team tremendously. Plus with his expiring contract he most likely would resign to stay with Rubio and Adelman system i believe would rejunivate his career. The Wolves wanted Parsons in the past and with his cheap contract he would be a good addition to the Wolves team. They will have a lot of SFs coming off of contract and while I expect AK to opt into his last year of his deal (for 10 mill!) it still allows the wolves to have a starting SF for 2 more seasons on the cheap. Esp more so if Parsons can learn to play the 2spot.

The Rockets well they get another max worthy guy in Love who already has a good relationship with Harden and of course is also very young too. He had some injuries which are concerning but at least it doesnt seem to be chronic - the thing that should make everyone here want Love is that he has gotten better every year he has been in the league. Being with McHale will only further help his growth. With him and Asik in the paint pretty sure there will be no rebounds for anyone else to get.

my pipedream lineup for next season:

    Lin/Beverly
    Harden/Brooks?
Delfino/Tjones (though I think delfino may leave)
    Love/Robinson
    Asik/Smith

Now if Morey holds onto the 2nd round picks he maybe able to fill in the backup 2 spot with someone in the early second round - a player who is NBA ready but has little potential to become a "all-star" but would be a solid bench guy -- these guys tend to slip to the end of the first/early second round.

but this is just a dream to happen of course

In dept statistical analysis according to whom...??? You're suggestion isn't proof. Kobe Bryant, James Harden, Chris Paul, D-Will, etc are perimeter offensive players. Iggy locks up with perimeter players at the 1-3 positions constantly and Smith does not.

So to say Josh Smith is the best perimeter defender when he doesn't guard the best perimeter players on a regular basis is truly ignorant. Almost as ignorant as paying for an ESPN insider account when you can find that same 5h!t for free on other sites

Very nice... And Minnesota will HAVE to trade Love eventually because he isn't staying...

I just believe Morey will also try to get New Orleans to try to trade Anderson (if he can't get Love). He fits the system perfect at a cheaper price. The Pelicans said they wasn't going to trade him but I don't see that team keeping Anderson at his price tag coming off the bench.

    Morey will absolutely do something.

Clock is already ticking on Harden, Lin, Asiks contracts.

Tho if d12 is available or he needs to package Lin to get a top tier 4...

Could Bima or someone tell me the logistics of trading for someone like a Larry Sanders this summer?

Yeah, everyone is learning how to play with eachother. McHale's started developing a bond with all of the players and is working closely with our big men. Harden, Parsons, and Lin seem to be developing good chemistry. With all those friendships and the family atmosphere, Morey definitely won't be making any moves this summer.

Howard would leave LA to play with Josh Smith , and our chances double if the Lakers get swept in the first round. Lin or Asik would be traded for penuts to make salary cap room. Brooks and Patrick would make great point guards for Smith and Howard.

'Doing nothing' could mean saving $$$ for a '14 run. 'Doing nothing' does not mean doing nothing.

Let's just say this is true. Why here and not A-T-L? They could build their team there in their image as they choose.

Morey is always doing something -- I can't imagine that he won't be pushing hard for the final piece (or two) that give us the chance to make a run for the championship.

Very interesting, The_Yoyo, although I'd have a heart attack if we made those moves, probably. Trading Parsons would really bum me out. Having said that, a healthy Love next to Asik makes me drool. It's the sort of move I can imagine Morey making. Adelman would love Parsons and Gasol, and that's a good haul for the Lakers. You really think Jones can be an effective 3? Because if Carlos leaves, and you think he might, we're going from solid to pretty darned thin there. Anderson could get some minutes, but he's unproven.

Why are people here so eager to get rid of Omer for Howard? He's literally double the salary with a huge question mark in the good teammate category.

I think Jones is versatile enough to be a backup 3 if Delfino stays -- of course it would make us very thin at the 3 spot. Maybe this is where another 2nd round pick can help OR try to sign someone else depending on how much flexibility there is after wards.

I mean I dont believe any future deal is made for a star right now without giving up Parsons as terrible as that sounds. But I doubt Wolves would give up basically Love for Gasol Straight up -- they would want some sort of young talent in return. and i mean if you tell kahn you'd give him two white guys in exchange for one - that makes it all the easier for him to pull the trigger. :p

again this is total hypothetical but I feel that the capspace will be used more as a way to get a guy via trade then sign a guy out right.

i feel Asik/Love is more complimentary to Harden than just Howard (and if the other dream of getting Josh Smith as well as Howard)

It's a reasonable scenario, IMO, and really does seem like a Morey kinda deal. Nice speculation. You have to give to get, usually, and the Rockets would be giving up a lot of young cheap talent with potential (who will need to be paid eventually), and those draft picks, but end up with the best player, which is what a healthy Love is in this deal, and he's young. Sound familiar? ;-)-

On the possibility of 3 stars, a team would need guys that produce on cheap contracts. Basically, about 12 guys averaging 2 million could support 1 supermax and 2 lesser maxes.

The Rockets have Parsons, Beverley, Anderson, and Ohlbrecht for two more full seasons under a million. DMo and Jones for 2 years under 3 million. Smith has one more submillion year. They traded for a high 2nd rounder over a protected first. They have the 2014 and 2015 Knicks second rounders.

The Rockets are going for three max players. They might not get it, but they are built for it already and have resources to stay built for it.

The West has more teams ready to jump into the playoffs (from the Lotto) then the East has contenders.

Do you think Ferry would deal Smith if Howard would come to play together with him? When was the last time that team was relevant in (JS5 and DH12's hometown of) Atlanta?
