Godsmack is more alternative metal and post-grunge, not grunge by defintion. But I know what you're getting at. "Alternative" and "grunge" was kinda considered one in the same. (And all the artists kept rejecting the labels then) Too hard to name the best, only some faves. No order - STP: Big Empty - Bush: Alien - Sponge: Plowed etc. If Pearl Jam "Yellow Ledbetter" had even ONE understandable lyric, it'd be one of the best songs ever. I'd bet its pretty much Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, all the true Seattle grunge"bands and a little STP filling out the top 20
These are fun because "best" is so easy to agree upon and define. I'll play. Outshined - Soundgarden. Not really sure it is the best, just participating. I do like it though.
Anyone remember a song with loud grungy guitars, then a sudden pause for unaccompanied vocals, that simply was just "Yeah!"? That sequence was repeated a few times. I think that was the chorus?
anyone here listened to Ataxia ? <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/YGG68iqGUVM?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Agreed. Other faves: Chris Cornell - Sunshower Soundgarden - Pretty Noose Mother Love Bone - Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns Smashing Pumpkins - Mayonaise Alice in Chains - Am I Inside
If we're going to talk Grunge in the strict sense, I agree. I was trying to pick my favorite, but just gave up. Their subpop channel has a nice selection on youtube, for interested parties. Here's one from the self-titled album: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-SRxWz3CDvg?list=PL8D9D4C25F46ECEFA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
black??? What is grunge? Is it "Smells like Teen Spirit"? I'm Mexican. I don't know. Dona't know if this is what you were looking for, but this always got me pumped up in EA's FIFA 1998 for the PS2 with its screaming and all-out guitars, drums, and unintelligible lyrics I only learned until I read them on YouTube 10 years later : <object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Wc18xt5wQnk?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Wc18xt5wQnk?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object> Yeh-yeah!
