I think there is some very valid criticism of Marciano for not ever really trying Jacoby as the kickoff returner. He proved in Baltimore that he was more than a little good at it and our KO return game has been pretty crummy for a while.

He may not have been allowed to use Jacoby back there. Manning is a very good kick returner. He's never back there because the team doesn't want him getting hurt.

I think there are very valid criticisms of Marciano, but when it is incorrectly boiled down to the return game you set yourself up to lose the Marciano argument. What about the years where we were good at returns with guys like Mathis, Davis, etc? Maybe it's all just the talent!

The bigger issue with Marciano's special teams is they have always been bad at coverage, they are never good at sniffing out fakes. Those are things that fall on the coach.

Exactly. This is has been a trend though. I talked before the season about how it would hurt us. They are not good at kickoff coverage. It's a joke.

A big part of that is that we have weak legged kickers and other teams have no fear about coming out from 3 feet in the endzone.

Yup. I view this as an unspoken message to Marciano saying, "Shape things up or your 'assistant' takes over."

They hired a guy who got fired for doing a terrible job and has been let go by several teams over the last few years. Apparently the guy isn't well liked either.

I think this is more about shutting up the fans than providing real job concerns to Marciano.

If that's their intention, it's an epic FAIL. You don't quiet down fans clamoring for a GOOD coach by hiring a BAD coach.

I agree with you, but I also don't think you scare a mediocre coach who's been here forever by hiring a bad coach who can't keep a job and was on the street at this point of the offseason.

This would be like giving Kevin Walter competition last year by bringing in Bryant Johnson.

those were the years where the wedge was still legal. ever since the NFL outlawed the wedge Marciano's return production took a steep decline, and he has shown nothing that leads me to believe he will adapt in coming years...

hopefully this is all some kind of elaborate joke on Marciano, and he is simply getting Miltoned...the Texans didn't fire him...they just fixed the problem

There's simply no explanation for Marciano's job security other than McNair feels he brings a lot to the table. Literally at his offseason potluck dinners and backyard BBQs.

The organization is loath to fire anyone, down to the underachievers and the embarrassments. They're determined to operate more like a family than a business when it comes to the front office and staff.

Marciano has basic vanilla blocking and covering, all brought to you by a quick purchase at amazon

His success is completely tied to what the players bring to the table. He can't develop or coach up any of them worth a damn. Raise of hands if you actually think he was responsible for Braham's play last season. Marciano squads aren't disciplined, aren't focused, aren't coached up, and it shows.

Not sure what good it does to put pressure on a guy when you've had a decade of evidence to demonstrate to you that he simply isn't very good at what he does. If someone just isn't up to the task, you fire them and get someone better.

The possible good I could see from this is if Bob Ligashesky can add something either in developing individuals or in introducing coverage/blocking schemes or techniques beyond the middle school level.

The 'Part the Red Sea' kickoff by itself can never be defended on any level.

Marciano and Bob McNair must be having a secret homosexual affair.

    The only explanation.

The Texans wanted to hire an assistant but you can't have the assistant be better or more qualified than your coordinator so they had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find someone worse than Marciano.

But every game will still be sold out.

FYI, Uncle Bob is reportedly around 77 with a net worth of 1.4 Billion.

If I had season tickets, I sure wouldn't be cancelling them because they hired a special teams assistant.

This silly hiring is super-annoying....but the Texans are still a damn good product right now.

yup, when people are relegated to complaining about a special teams assistant hire, then things aren't too bad.
