Definitely agree with you on Foster. Based on sheer talent, I'd take these guys over Foster, AP Rice McCoy Charles Lynch Gore I prefer aggressive RBs over finesse ones.
Forget y'all. Of the RBs listed, only Jamaal, AP, and Lynch had clear better stats...of those three, Charles had a whopping 5 fumbles in much less carries...has durability issues, while Lynch had his best year last year with the other years coming no where close ... So, that leaves AP as the only undeniable, clear cut put in front when you consider last year and the past years. Sorry to interject in Shane's thread but I don't get the marginalization of our RB ... There are some Peterson fans who wished A.P. could score TD as well as Foster...all with an overrated OL that needs to do a lot more and should... I definitely hated the sometimes too quick to hit the turf running, or the career low 4.1 ypc, but beyond that he met expectations and even returned to better running form in the playoffs. Amazing how some fans in other cities think higher of Foster. , but besides that he better improve on long runs next year to justify what I said and I believe he will.
Arian had a YPC average of 4.1 last year. That's good for the 20th best ranking among qualified running backs. And it isn't like he just got worn down as the year went on, he was doing similar things at the beginning of the season. (threads here talking about it) There's also plenty of guys ahead of him on the list that were behind bad lines. If you only look at guys who ran for over 1000 yards, Foster is still 13th on the list. His playoff average was only 4.3 which is again, not special and would have moved him up like 1 spot or something on the list if he had done that during the regular season. He was not special last year.
I love the "qualified running back" clause. We can include RBs who only play 3 to 4 games to qualify...if you play 3 to 4 games worth are you better if your ypc is slightly more? Of course not you look at everything... But when you look further you realize there are only 16 RBs with a better ypc if you throw out anything less than 116 attempts since that attempt is way too small to use that as a meaningful measure...the difference of being #10 A. Bradshaw to #17 Arian Foster is only 18 inches....certainly more is better but that is close, so what do you get for that # 10 spot in ypc? ...you get 9 fewer TDs, ...you get 5 less 20 yard runs,...over 400 less yards ...not a trade I would do for that extra 18 inches per carry.... Or lets go up....J. Charles ...#3 best ypc behind the fantastic CJ Spiller, and Peterson....Charles had a 5.3 ypc, and you get 75 more yards, you get a couple more 20 yard runs....but you also get a whopping 10 less TDs!! ...how is that for red zone efficiency?, and what about a whopping 5 fumbles? ....does that enter the equation? No doubt that kind of trade is debatable....the point is it is debatable ...,is YPC important? O yea...maybe the biggest part of a RB worth when evaluating who is the best, but it is still only just a part....do I like the 5.3 ypc? Yea but that does not take away the red zone ineptitude....that doesn't take away the 5 whopping fumbles in less carries.... When I look at everything including playoff performance compared to what other RB do,...Foster still is the best AFC RB representative. Adrian Peterson had as many attempts running the ball and still had 3 less TDs in his monster MVP year compared to Foster. Even in a down year, Foster showed up...
Good call. I should be ashamed for hiding from the truth and not narrowing the results to exclude guys who weren't really full time rushers. If only I had thought to add more data such as limiting it to only those who rushed for 1,000 or more yards. There are how many teams in the NFL? You say "only" as if that should mean Arian is one of the best. 16 having a better YPC than reinforces my point: not special last year. I never said bad. I said "not special." I wouldn't call him special if he were #10 on the list either. That would be better than 16th though. Who said anything about trading him? All I said was that he wasn't special and he certainly shouldn't be called the best in the league after last season. You are overrating touchdowns for Foster. Kubiak played a really conservative style in the red zone last year where he ran the ball with Foster a lot. Foster's TDs went up, but as any fan who watched the games will agree, it was maddening to watch them kick a bunch of field goals because they didn't know how to score in the red zone consistently.
No just keeping out the players who only rush for 3 to 4 games worth seems fair When I say only,...we are talking about only 9 RB who have more than 0.5 ypc more, and like I said you need to look at other factors like long runs, yards and TDs, and fumble efficiency That's you, but when only 9 full time RBs have more than a 0.5 ypc advantage then you look at other things that the RB brings to the table and you look at other factors No doubt he wasn't special, last year was a down year but he still brought more to the table than a vast, vast majority of RBs when and if you look at everything. You are overrating ypc...I can have a 10.0 ypc, but if I only score 5 TDs, what have I really done in a season?...I can have a 5.3 ypc, but what if I have 5 fumbles that hurt the team along the way? ..... You don't lead the nfl in rushing TDs by accident no matter how conservative. You have to have a knack for punch in ability that a lot of RBs can't.... As unstoppable as Adrian Peterson was, he should have had much more TDs,.,,the point is not every RB ...as Tate found out has that characteristic. Foster is special. He brings that element and could do that for other teams regardless of the coaching.
Glad you agree and I accept your apology in advance for wasting time arguing when you agree with my position.
Nice to see a full of crap reply. He didn't have a "special season" last year, but what he brings to the table as a RB is special, he still had a tremendous year...that is the difference
All I ever said was that he wasn't special last year. Which you agree with. I never said the other things weren't true.
what started all of this was someone saying "Arian is a top 3 RB" and you saying "Arian wasn't a top 3 RB last year" and disagreeing. When the initial statement wasn't necessarily about last year...it's just a full statement. Maybe he didn't have a special year. But I'd still call him a top 3 RB. At the least, it's an arguable point.

i wish i could be blind homers like you guys.. damn texans have the best player at damn near all positions. cant wait for ben jones and newton to have a solid year so we can start proclaiming them as THE BEST RG & RT in the league.. if not the best, atleast TOP 3, or TOP 5..
wtf are you talking about? he went off and listed that so and so were either "the best, top 3 or top 5" players in the league, i didnt say anything about a top 5 team.. do you agree with his statements? is brown the best LT in the league? no, you would also have trouble puttin him in the top 3. is myers the best C in the league? no is arian a top 3 rb? debatable is andre a top 3 wr? top 5 maybe if i can put together a homer argument is jjo a top 5 corner? debatable, after revis, sherman, & tilman, does he make the cut. is cush a top 5 ILB/MLB? i will make that argument, the only guy inside i would rather have over cush right now is willis. most believe SF has the top 2 ILBs with bowman aswell. and yes watt is the best defensive player in the NFL. 713 also made these claims.. brice mccain is the best nickel in the NFL donnie jones is a top 3 punter.. do you see a pattern here.. i know we have some monsters, im glad we have them all, locked up too. i dont need to add some false titles like best, top 3, or top 5 to feel better about the players on our roster.. this 713 kid is just tossing out stuff and hoping it sticks. i doubt he could name another nickle db without google..
