I'm reading Storm of Swords and they'll particularly need the budget for the dragons and the city backdrops (a computerized Astapor, for example).

I didn't realize this season was based on only the first half of the 3rd book. That's pretty awesome. We were wanting more episodes per season but essentially this is the same thing.

Cramming all of book 3 into 12 episodes would be a waste. So glad they made it into two seasons.

[Yes they have all been 10 episodes per season so far, though the extra episodes are someone counter balanced by the fact that book 3 is longer. Another new preveiw today, though mostly footage we have seen already:

I'm thinking about getting a tattoo of one of the house sigils. Which one do you think I should get?

I'm leaning towards House Targaryen or Greyjoy.

According to the author, it's more like two-thirds.

I'm almost done with Book 3 now. I'd say the author's about right.

There are small give-and-takes. Some scenes from the second book were pushed to season 3 of the show, while some scenes from the third book already occurred in season 2, that kind of thing.

Season 3 should be kick-a$$. Nothing will match the first season, probably, because of the loss of a certain protagonist, while justifiable to the story, removed a certain something that Season 2 just couldn't quite recapture (even though it definitely had its moments). And, like the book (and subsequent movie) "The Fellowship of the Ring", the first book (and TV season) of "Song of Ice and Fire" succeeded largely due to a tighter focus of characters, before they drift apart for their own adventures.

Not to spoiler anything, but there are some scenes on The Wall later in Storm of Swords that are just awesome. But it appears they will appear in the fourth season.

I half-wish Bill Gates would donate millions of dollars to HBO so they have the budget to do these scenes justice, but we'll see what happens.
