This team depends on our SF shooting 3's at a high clip. Without that we are average. DMo is inconsistent, Asik is non existent, And Parsons goes hot and cold faster than Katie Perry in Russell Brand, John mayer etc.. If any team is smart they will do what the Spurs did last night, focus on Lin and Harden pack the paint and let the other players try to beat you. That's what San Antonio did last night and it almost worked. They focused on Harden and Lin and said beat us Parsons and DMo. We know DMo is unpredictable but after Parsons went off like crazy for 12-13 I thought wow this kid has arrived. Of course I never expected him to shoot crazy like that forever but I thought, Wow parsons has evolved.. We have our 40% 3 point shooting SF we can depend on! People will say hey it's the Spurs and we won. But I say it wasn't the Spurs A game by far. They came in after a tough overtime win over Utah and yes there was a little let down and Parker while looking good still didn't play as well as he could have. Nor did we Lin was off and Harden struggled shooting but if SA brings their A game we lose. We can play hard D but if they only have to guard Lin and harden we will struggle in the playoffs. I love parsons D and his attitude but if he is going to be a starter (not star) he has to hit his 3's more consistently. Not shoot 10 for 12 1 night and 2 for 12 another. That looks great on paper but what happens is we win and lose 1 with those stats. I was thinking our most important need was at the 4 this off season and it may will be but part of me is thinking we could use the best 3 point shooting 3 in the league at SF and let Parsons be our utility guy taking Delfino's role. Still getting 30 minutes but not starting. Of course all that goes out the window if Parson's is a true consistent 40% 3 point shooter. They thing is I am not sure if he is or ever will be. Yeah this is a knee jerk reaction but when I watch him shoot even when he is hot his form just looks bad. he shoots darts at the goal which leaves the least amount of error. I don't know how he changes without completely changing his shot and I don't know if we can even expect improvement if he does. It's certainly not something he can do the remainder of this season. I know this is another unpopular 1 star thread. And let me be clear I am a Parsons fan. If he becomes a consistent high percentage 3 point shooter there are not many players not named lebron I would take for him. But with what we are building here if he turns out to be inconsistent for long stretches we might be better served going after a better shooting 3. Of course that will be hard thing to do because the player will need to play some defense and rebound decent along with that. Okay maybe that player is not out there. But man when Parsons shoots well, with our guard play, that mix can beat anyone. If he can do that consistently we may surprise a few teams this playoffs. That's all I am really saying.
Cleverly disguised Say No to Josh Smith thread His form is fine. He just needs to stop fading back on his shot. When he leans back, he's forced to shoot a less softer shot to get it to the rim.
Rockets love Parsons way too much to send him to the bench. Unless we get a superstar at the small forward position, Parson will be starting.
I like this evaluation with exception of one thing. You bring up Dmo but yet this guy is just now getting play time against legit players. Parsons finally has a legit leader and is still a noobie player as well.
Well, nobody said we were going for the championship this year. Getting Harden was step 1. Morey explicitly indicated that he was looking for that next step, i.e., a second all-star type player. Having an organization with such a great and organized front office is a blessing in this league. We've already exceeded expectations thus far so enjoy the ride, sir.
Parsons threes: .394 in wins, .367 in losses Delfino threes: .421 in wins, .331 in losses Harden threes: .417 in wins, .330 in losses Lin threes: .348 in wins, .312 in losses Team collectively: .399 in wins, .337 in losses So no. There is nothing special about Parsons' shot that the team keys on. We are a three point shooting team, of course we need our shooters to be good shooters to win. But if anything, Parsons has been the LEAST up and down of the main shooters, statistically speaking.
I like Josh smith. I was on the bandwagon for signing him this offseason considering what realistically might be available but his free throw percentage is pathetic and I think that is too nasty a pill to swallow. Add that with he is a lousy 3 point shooter that can play the 3. The more I think about it the more I do not want him. But honestly wasn't thinking about that when writing this. The problem is where are there better free agent options. Milsap has his flaws too. And while they are both better than the 2 PF's we have now. How much better are they considering these guys are Roks with very little experience and showin signs of improvement. The Rockets problem is we have good players at every position and only one star. Anything less than another star may not even help. We need one more Harden type deal.
He is shooting better than Paul George and James Harden for 3 pointers. He is going to be a starter for sure.
40% shooter is also a ridiculously high standard to set. There are only 10 rotation players in the league shooting that well with the size to play small forward. Only one of these guys would be a clear upgrade over Parsons, and his name is Kevin Durant. Parsons' strength is his cut and ability to finish around the rim. His weakness is dribbling and drive to basket. How many TOs he's made driving to basketball? Perfect example is that drive led to TOs last night vs. Spurs. Luckily Beverley had a great block and Parson saved it with a fast break 3 pointer. I actually don't care about Parson's drive since we have Harden and Lin, but it should be noted that Parsons' limited in driving and also play making abilities. He should stick to slashing and 3 pointers, and step up on defense.
lol it doesnt help when both parsons and delfino shoot less then 35 percent...in fact i recall looking at the shot attempts after certain losses and you see Parsons like 1/7 and delfino with like 1/6 or something like that in the same game together.
