Expensive, I lived in Brooklyn heights and was 3 stops away from time square. Had a lot fun and enjoyed every minute I was there. Do you plan on moving there?
I find that this port city just happened to be chosen as the gateway into the land of opportunity fascinating. New York could have been any port city, but now it has become a haven for immigrants and thus business and commercial traffic. Interesting how this city changed the world.

Expensive rents, you'll likely forsake a car for the MTA, you may need a laundromat, you will walk a lot more, everywhere delivers, fashion is important, and you'll be poor.
