Watching the Heat win their 26th straight game tonight, I figure they have a good chance of catching 30 straight (goes through Spurs though). But then I thought, The Bulls won 72 games out of 82 games, and there have been a few teams that won 68 or 69 games in a season, but not another team has hit 70. This brings me to the reason for this thread. What is more impressive to you fellow CFers, the 33 game win streak from the Lakers or the 72 win season by the Incredi-Bulls?
I'd say 72 wins takes the cake. Teams get hot/cold all the time. To be on fire for an entire season is remarkable and a true measure of dominance.
Idk that's a tough one but 72 wins and 10 losses is mighty impressive Thought the 72 Lakers did go 69-13 as well.
Just to provide some perspective the Bulls won 72-10 in an era where the league was expanding. The talent in the league was super diluted and they took advantage of that. 33 wins in a row is the most difficult achievement imo. There is less margin of error + you need to have luck. Lets say you have two b2bs on the road against two elite teams. That could put a serious damper in achieving 33 wins in a row.
Also keep in mind there are teams close to 72-10 record wise but prior to the heat the 2nd best win streak was only at 22 wins. Thats quite a gap between 33 and 22.
If Heat is not as far superior than their competition in playoffs, Heat might be peaking at the wrong time. They are taking awful risk by playing at peak level trying to break the record. Any pro team can go into a slump just as easily as they go on a winning streak. This streak got to take its toll, both physically and mentally. If Heat can break the record AND win the Finals this year, then they got to be one of the greatest NBA teams in modern era!
The Bulls won 72 games and then followed that up with a 69 win season. Taken together, I think that's probably the most impressive.
72. If Miami wins every game from now on they still won't beat that. THat is RIDICULOUSLY difficult to do.
They been coasting all season like I said before the streak. Look at their fg% and see how fatigued they are. In the west they won't get near the streak because playing a team only twice taken place far apart in a season takes out an opponent's opportunity of rematch and revenge which most good teams manage to do. The second seed in the east is about the level of 6-7 seed of the west. Nuff said. And look at miami's win margin until Orlando game. They weren't tested until recently. I say they haven't even peaked. They are even in better shape than west teams who go to real battles 4 times more often than heat. Too bad being in west is unfair like that, which had given east teams advantage to be in champion series unscarred.
That was an expansion season, Toronto and Vancouver added that season. The Lakers streak was one year after expansion. This Heat streak is really more impressive or the Rocks streak with TMac.
Good point. It's also stood for 42 years. And if they did win 69 games that season, I think that is more impressive. It's still like arguing against two super cute girls. No real loser.
Okay, google is my friend. . The 71-72 Lakers won 69 games, and lost 3 games by 1 point. Also, in those days they had back to back to back games. The season was also from November 5 to March 26. The Bulls longest win streak was 17. The season was November 3 to April 21, which means they had about 23 more off days. They also lost 3 games by only 1 point. To think a few free throws cost them from winning 75. Wow. Given the same amount of games in fewer days, along with lesser sports medicine, I say definitely 33.
If it's regular season, it's the Bulls. Otherwise it's the one championship run no Laker hater can deny, the 01 Lakers. They went 15-1 in the playoffs, sweeping every team until the finals where Allen Iverson actually managed to win one game for the 76ers
