They've posted up to him a few times, but right now doesn't really fit in with the offense. Offense has revolved around more swinging/ball movement mixed with P&R's and driving. Posting up has been nearly non-existent in this offense, and it's a bit late to change philosophies now.
Post up, yes. Also I have noticed that very good things happen when DMo puts the ball on the floor. Usually he has a slow PF guarding him and seems able to get by those guys at will. Either he charges the basket for an easy score or else he passes off to an open man. It's too bad he's in foul troulbe so often because his passing and versatily (and length) really help the Rockets out. In regards defense...notice that when DMo was in there (w/ Asik) Parker didn't dare attack the basket. When Delfino and Smith (or Asik) were in Parker took it again and again to the rim.
Lol what? He's not even a power forward. His natural position is shooting guard. And how exactly has he been garbage offensively? He shoots a quality percentage, stretches the floor, and doesn't turn the ball over. He's an ideal role player.
Exactly. He has started, what, 12 games? Let's not begin experimenting with a rookie this deep into a playoff race. He has enough pressure going from DLeague to best power forward on the team. We're 7-3 in the last 10 games. It's working.
The team doesn't really want to play the post or at least doesn't seem to design it as well as previous years where we had Yao, Scola and Landry. McHale's past as a player and his eye for big men in Minnesota aside, this team really doesn't seem like they want their big men scoring with their back to the basket unless the play breaks down. Delfino has been good in 2013 but he has been streaky with his shooting. The man is just as easily likely to cause a critical foul, shoot the team out of a game as he is to nail a critical 3 point shot. His defense is depends on who he is guarding, against legit big men or faster or more athletic guys he gets abused. Love his hustle in some games but let's not kid ourselves if this team wasn't so obsessed with playing small ball and the 3 point shot he wouldn't' nearly get the minutes he does outside of subbing for Parsons.
McHale system for some reason doesn't want a low post 4. So it doesn't make any sense too go after a big time 4 in the offseason. T_Man
when we go through one of those stretches every shot is a contested missed 3, I would love to see the ball thrown down there to him more.
Dear Clutchfans, Our half court offense is very much a dribble drive penetrate and kick out to 3pt kinda offense. It's gotten us this far, why change it up? I am sure the coaching staff is working a few post up D Mo plays into practice, but It might not show up until a scrub team game or even next year. Who did we have to post it up before D-Mo, Asik? How many ballerina lay ups did he give us? Yes D Mo is way more Polish(actually Lithuanian) offensively than Asik (who is Turkish), but D Mo isnt Lebron or something where you just run a play for him because he can make a shot. Our system is built around a stretch 4. In conclusion, I agree with most of you that we should post up D Mo since he has Scola like post game success-potential. However, like Scola, D Mo has a wet jumper and unlike scola, hasnt been worked into the system yet. Give it time fellow CFers, things will work out! Sincerely yours, LCAhmed
i think asik is the reason we dont post up dmo much... bc dmo is a liability on the defensive end esp with rebounding, he is on the court with asik and sometimes with smith.. neither of them have any range so if he posts up with any regularity, he will get doubled every time
He's made 141 3's this season on a career high .383%. He is the primary offensive threat from the bench. Where would this team be without Delfino? Almost definitely not half a game from the 6th seed, but going after #8 with Portland, Dallas, and Utah. He get's his fair share or steals and deflections. Most everyone's defense depends on who he's guarding on any particular night. But you're right, he shouldn't be playing the 4 at all, but such is our team's gameplan. He get's about 25 minutes a night, I think that's about right. He's also subbing for Harden as much as Parsons. I don't think we give him enough credit. Obviously he won't win 6th man, but solid from nowhere pickup from Morey. He's also been the veteran on the team with excellent experience with the Argentinian team.
What most people don't seem to see is that this is a very debatable point. Most people seem to think it's a foregone conclusion that these guys will eventually be better than Patterson. I don't think Patterson was the answer. I think he is a career backup. However, he was better as a rookie than Dmo and Trob. So while they may have "potential" to be better, it's very questionable to say its likely they will be better.
So what's the problem? Dmo is an energy guy, he worked all season long to get playing minutes, give the guy a chance, it's not like we are going to rely on Delfino to be our future PF? Besides if DM is planning to bring in Millsap, J.Smith, we need to raise the value of both Motie an Robinson.
Next year - this year let him learn as we go. He does not need to bulk up so much as he needs to lower his center of gravity and learn to have a stronger base. He is off balance because he is too upright - but give him time, he will be a terror on the low block. DD
I think it is a forgone conclusion that BOTH TRob and DMo will be better than Patterson eventually, in a lot of ways they are better now. DMo has a better overall offensive game than Patterson now and TRob is already the better defender and rebounder. Patterson was a nice mid range jumper and occasional 3 and nothing else. Because of that great shot, he'll always have a place as a role player off the bench in the NBA but he's not really starter material. I think both of the Rockets young PF's end up starter material
Read through the thread , You'll find plenty. By the way it's guys like you who whine and complain every time someone critiques a Lithuanian player in the NBA that give the rest of us lithuanians a bad rep on the internets
