Umm...did you mean protein/fat/carbs? 65% fat...regardless of what type of fat...is pretty damn high. I'm thinking you had to mean protein for that number. I don't know anyone recommending a 65% fat diet...lol.

I know a lot of people do the high protein and low carb diet but didn't know that Atkins diet in particular is still out there...

Well, I lost 40+ pounds back then, and kept it off for more than a year, then went back to terrible dietary habits.

Cokes, French fries, you name it, so - back on it I go - not doing Atkins per se, but learned enough about it last time to do it again on my own.

So far, it is early, I am on day 7, and have lost 5 pounds - the first 3 days are a mother scratcher though - and yes, I have the Ketostix, they are very motivating when you see that purple on the tip.

Anyone else give Atkins or low carb a go?

    DD

A cocaine/meth combination with skipping breakfast, intermediate lunch with average dinner should get you to drop about 50 lbs in 1 month. There is a small chance you could die and you will suffer terrible withdrawal symptoms for a long time if you do but its a small price to pay to get all the fries out of your thighs.

Funny you should mention this, I cut carbs today. Plan on doing this for a while. My body reacts very poorly to carbs, I get extremely sleepy even when only consuming good carbs. I can't afford to be sleepy after every meal, and I don't have time to exercise more than 3 hours per week so I'm hoping this is a good way to drop some lbs and keep my energy going.

This time around I'm going to eat a lot more salad though. Last time I did this about 4 years ago, I lost 40lbs in 4 months but I was exercising 7 times a week but I wasn't having enough greens and I did not realize that I should stay away from fruits. Let's see how this works out in dropping 10lbs.

My goal this year was to get from 205 to 185. After almost 3 months, I am down to 188 mainly because I have run 280 miles this year and do strength training twice a week. I have more protein in the morning than I used to, eating a mixture of salads or sandwiches for lunch (I know - bread makes you fat), and having reasonable dinners. For the most part, my diet is the "do better" diet. Instead of a piece of cake, I'll have half a piece. Instead of a sandwich for lunch 5-7 days a week, I have one 2-3 days a week. Instead of 2-3 slices of pizza, I'll have 1-2. Instead of a beer or diet soda with dinner 7 days a week, I'll have water 5 of those days.

Something tells me it can't be healthy to cut out carbs to insanely low levels. Also aren't carbs a vital part of energy for strength training?
I'm no nutritionist though so I don't know the science behind it.

I'm going the total opposite direction by drinking green smoothies several days/week. I resumed lifting weights a couple of years ago with the intent of "bulking and cutting". The bulking part was easy because I love lifting. But cutting is hard to get fired up about. Using smoothies to increase my intake of vegetables & fiber and reduce calories hopefully helps me cut about 20 lbs.

I think the Atkins diet is nonsense. Every overweight American consumes way too many carbs but Atkins is just another unsustainable fad that won't help you long term.

    +1.

You can't pay me enough to tell me not to eat my fking sweet potatoes! YOU HEAR??

seriously...carb cycle..and make it more of a life style change. here's what i do:

    Protein ~0.8 to 1g / LB --- consistent everyday
Carbs - HIGH on workout days, and low on rest days
Fat - low on workout days, higher on rest days.

Note: When i mean workout, I mean lift weights 3x a week. I don't do cardio.
