Porter has said that he wants to keep a long reliever. EdGo is a better fit than Alex White or Brad Peacock. If Alex White or Brad Peacock do not make the starting rotation, they would be better off making regular starts in AAA.
I count Lyles as a Porter staff screwup. I read that Lyles had too much tinkering from the staff in ST. Now Lyles has to go down to AAA and work off that tinkering. Go Bo!!!
I'm talking about the rotation. Don't see how the team putting him ahead of Bedard and Peacock. Edit: Of course Gonzalez making the roster would also result in somebody being waived.
I would give that more weight if Lyles had more success at higher levels. Frankly, I didn't think he improved much between 2011 and 2012. I think we may have to accept the reality that Lyles may just not be very good at the MLB level.

Did not know this, though I'm sure some of you did, but spoke briefly with Luhnow today and he noted JJ Watt will be throwing the first pitch on opening day. Should be pretty sweet.
WTHB, from Wednesday: Minor League Cuts Begin 4 were released... no significant names. John Hinson is the highest-drafted player of the 2011 class (13) to be released at this point.
if you get cut from the worst team in baseball, i guess that pretty much means its the end of the line for you shot at the bigs...
Astros lost to the Braves 3-2 this afternoon with a late game bomb by Ankiel. Hoping he makes the team. Humber gave up 3 homers that were hit pretty damn hard, but with no one on base.

if picking up your starting SS off waivers the week before the season starts (not due to injury) doesn't indicate the state of your major league roster....
