Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah giveth thee Glad tidings of a Word From Him: his name Will be Christ Jesus. The son of Mary, held in honor In this world and the Hereafter And of (the company of) those Nearest to Allah. "He shall speak to the people In childhood and in maturity. And he shall be (of the company) Of the righteous." She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son When no man hath touched me?" He said: "Even so: Allah createth What He willeth: When He hath decreed A Plan He but saith To it, 'Be', and it is! "And Allah will teach him The Book and Wisdom, The Law and the Gospel, "And (appoint him) A messenger to the Children Of Israel (with this message): "I have come to you, With a sign from your Lord,In that I make for you Out of clay, as it were,The figure of a bird, And breathe into it, And it becomes a bird By Allah's leave: And I heal those Born blind, and the lepers, And I quicken the dead, By Allah's leave; And I declare to you What ye eat, and what ye store In your houses. Surely Therein is a Sign for you If ye did believe. "(I have come to you), To attest the Law Which was before me. And to make lawful To you part of what was (Before) forbidden to you; I have come to you With a Sign from your Lord. So fear Allah and obey me. Behold! the angels said, 'Oh Mary! God gives you glad tidings of a Word from Him. His name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter, and in (the company of) those nearest to God. He shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. He shall be (in the company) of the righteous... And God will teach him the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel'" (3:45-48). "Christ, the son of Mary, was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how God makes His signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth!" (5:75). "He [Jesus] said: 'I am indeed a servant of God. He has given me revelation and made me a prophet; He has made me blessed wheresoever I be; and He has enjoined on me prayer and charity as long as I live. He has made me kind to my mother, and not overbearing or miserable. So peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the day that I shall be raised up to life (again)!' Such was Jesus the son of Mary. It is a statement of truth, about which they (vainly) dispute. It is not befitting to (the majesty of) God that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! When He determines a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is" (19:30-35).
I you are a Christian, which version of the biblical account of the resurrection do you subscibe to? http://www.religionfacts.com/christianity/charts/resurrection_accounts.htm
Christ died on the Cross. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/D1_oYrXdjVc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
It still blows my mind every day that the majority of people in this country believe that a person actually rose from the dead. I mean...I just cannot wrap my head around that one.
^^^ The evidences for that historic moment are pretty astounding. You should take a look at it. Dr. William Lane Craig tackles the subject More on the Resurrection The Bodily Resurrection of Jesus Peer reviewed article on the empty tomb The Historicity of the Empty Tomb of Jesus The Problem of Miracles: A Historical and Philosophical Perspective
Bob, if he really left the tomb 3 days after he was taken off the cross, he was still alive when he was put in there. There is no amount of "evidence" that could convince me that a human being was resurrected after 3 days, period. If god himself appears to me tonight and tells me a bunch of stuff, I will check myself into a mental institution tomorrow.
I hope I understand what you are saying. Is your biggest problem with miraculous resurrection, your strong belief in Naturalism, the view that nothing that goes against the common laws of nature is possible? That is why I posted the article on miracles. For most, that is what is the biggest problem when discussing the resurrection. I hope you take to read this well written article.
It blows my mind that some people believe anything they do not understand or goes against their feeble understanding of nature cannot be reality.
It's not that hard to understand. Actually living this life is a difficult experience; if believing in something gives people comfort then more power to them.
Jesus died on the cross to pay the debt for the sins of all men and rose from the dead 3 days later. Due to his sacrifice, all anyone has to do to be forgiven of their sins and thus get to Heaven is confess their and believe Jesus died for you.
See, that's the sort of thing I just don't get it. First god makes man and then woman. She messed things up and got Adam to eat from the tree and got them evicted from their little paradise. Then after some time went by god saw that all of these people he made were just sinning like crazy so he decided to just say screw it and kill them all (except Noah, etc.) with a big flood. Well, that didn't work so he decided to kill himself as his own son to pay the debt for all of us for all of that sinning we do, even though we all still sin of course since only god-via-son doesn't sin. I just don't get how an omniscient being doesn't see all of this coming (he seemed pretty pissed about it at times) unless it's one of those mysterious ways of his. It just doesn't make any sense. And yes, I'm oversimplifying a bit but that's the essence of how things went down as I was always taught it.
If you would look up the word "omniscient," you would receive that you are contradicting yourself. Omniscient- having unlimited knowledge
I would receive what now? Maybe you need to look up receive, or did you accidentally leave a word? Do you mean that he did know it would happen? If that's the case then why would he get so darned mad about everything and slaughter his whole creation? If he didn't see it coming then what kind of god is that?
