First misrepresentation. My username is Winkfan, not OremLK, who is the poster you quoted. Second misrepresentation. PER is score skewed, but points and assists are unbiased. I guess pace doesn't matter, for instance. Third misrepresentation. Team leader in WS/WP, huh? He's also a team leader in minutes. I guess that could just be coincidence. his WS/48minutes, and WP/48 are middle of pack on team. I was referring to your numbers. Never said I "expected better". I said I thought Lin will ultimately be an above average player.
I can't believe people forgot about jan already; if the team were to be judged by jan the everybody was exposed and the rockets are no better than the bobcats. Truth of the matter is that there were two sets of four games and five nights in a two week period. That's pretty insane, and I don't really expect any team except perhaps the spurs to pull out wins in that scenario.
Exactly what I expected. Every team has tough stretches in their schedule. Every player has poor stretches due to fatigue, injury, new teammates, blah, blah, blah. You can't just throw the bad stats and say " see, if everything is perfect, and all the breaks go our way, player A is actually this good", because there will alway BE tough schedules, sprained ankles, and breaks going against us.
Yes, there are always injuries and scheduling, but that stretch was HISTORICALLY bad. It was the 'most ridiculous schedule in the league' bad; it was worse than anything coaches had seen in the league for decades. You've made an excuse for discounting that stretch, but tell me this: do you think that the Rockets is actually a team that consistently loses seven games out of seven? Because that's what that stretch is; and give the team credit, they fought hard for most of them but lost them at the end when they ran out of gas. I mean I will give you this: young players are dismal on the end of back-to-backs. So by that measure, rookies AS A WHOLE tend to suck and go up-and-down. (see: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=232407) Does that mean that ALL rookies are horrible and would never improve?
You doing right except my born on clutch fans date is 2009 so i don't know by current definition if I can qualify as a LOF. The back story to my original response was that someone made the comment that they would like Lin to average another point and assist and that Lin had slightly underperformed to his expectaions. And I felt if Lin had got a couple more minutes instead of 32 that was acheivable for agument sake. durvasa came in with the chart trying to show me that Lins minutes were actually average or in line with the other starting pgs in the league. But wouln't the next logical ? you would have to ask yourself after looking at the chart is who are the other pgs are who are getting more or less playing time and who is a all star or not. Some of the main ideas about Lin from the start of the season on this site were peformance and potential based questions about him being first worth his contract, 2nd anything close to linsanity, below ave pg,just ave pg, or above ave pg, borderline all-star pg, superstar potential pg, and consistent or inconsistent. So given Lins recent performance how would you describe him? Rockets fans want a 2nd star to go with Harden. The last 3 games show Lin could possibly be that guy. So according to the chart wouldnt you want to know who the blue dots are that above the usuage rate of Lin? I bet one of the them is Westbrook. The correlation being if we want Lin to be borderline allstar or superstar no matter his average mins compare to the whole league of starting pgs we need minutes to be more inline the elite pgs if we want him to be elite and more consistent like the elite pgs. I mean doen't that make sense? When we have blow outs understand him sitting. But when you see leads evaporate and people want a strong performance and he delivers. You have to ask yourself could this on happen regular basis and is there something that McH could do immediatly to help Lin be more consistent? Since we all know on clutch fans that Mch is not the X's and o's of the operation. What in game decisions does Mch control that would help Lin reach his full potiential?........a few more minutes Just a little much this season no people in particular calling Lin a bust or linconsistent or not elite pg or below ave pg when he is getting ave min at pg and people want to see more.
In this case, the question is how much MPG is appropriate for a starting PG, so treating it as the dependent variable makes sense (i.e. "players with this PER should get this number of minutes").
Actually just for curiosities sake, I went to pull up other player's numbers. Asik: His Jan FG% was up by a little but his FT% plummeted, his TO's went up, and his Rebounding and Pts were down (10 and 9 instead of 11 and 10). Harden: His FG% was down to .429, FT% dipped since Dec, 3PT% all the way to .272, Points down to 25 per game instead of around 30. Parsons: Is actually the most consistent of the starters, even improved a little in most measures except FT%, where he dipped back down to .56... which is roughly like his rookie season. So, are we judging Asik, Harden, and Parsons by these numbers as well? Asik only being able to pull down 9 boards, Harden only having .272 from 3, and Parsons going almost 50-50 from the free throw line?
I don't know if he really improved his shooting mid season. Maybe he just got more healthy & comfortable in the system & as a result that improved his confidence with his shooting? Because like you said it is tough to improve your shooting mid season. I just think his early season shooting woes likely weren't a skill issue but a confidence/ health issue. Or maybe he is a player that typically gets off to poor starts early in the season. I suppose we will find out next year. Some guys are like that.
Your post is historically bad. Denver started out with 22 of 32 on the road. Their schedule in November was tougher than ours in January. We didn't have to play the Heat twice, for one. Of course we are not a team that consistently loses 7 in a row. We also don't win 12 out of 15 consistently. Duh. I'm not really sure how you got from "you can't discount the difficult stretches" to " All rookies are horrible and will never improve."
I had thought he would post about 14 and 7 or so. The main aspect of his game underperforming my expectations is his assist rate, which was much higher last season. Although I suspect a lot of that is because of all the Harden ISO's McHale likes to run, and is not really Jeremy's fault.
Has less to do with Harden iso's but more to do with less talent on this roster in comparison to the Knick roster last season & bt more Harden PNR ball handling. He averaged 8 assists as a starter (25 games) but this was with a much higher USG rate & as the sole PNR ball handler. Hopefully that makes sense.
And a ridiculous amount of turnovers. Harden is the perfect backcourt compliment because he's a good ballhandler. Lin is an atrocious ballhandler for a PG. One of the worst I've ever seen.
Your point makes little sense though because Harden has more ball handling turnovers than Lin though, 85 vs 65 http://www.82games.com/1213/12HOU6.HTM http://www.82games.com/1213/12HOU2.HTM
And that my friends is how you make someone look like a total fool. You let them TRY and sound like they know what they are talking about and completely blow them out of the water with actual numbers.
