SMH...the Royce White saga has been a major embarrassment for the Rox organization. He is just a big, spoiled, brat who uses mental health as a crutch. At this point I blame the Rox fully for not cutting their losses and getting rid of his sorry ass...

Well the good news for RGV is that they're getting Terrence Jones back and they don't have to deal with Royce anymore.

Yeah, it sounds like a passive-aggressive reproach of the team, from something like a concession denied perhaps. Like White asked that he be carried in a litter from Erie to Fort Wayne by eight burly African slaves to assuage his anxiety and the team doctor told him that was totally illogical.

Because 'logic' would say this is a good part of the schedule for White to not be troubled by travel-related anxieties. There's a back-to-back in the Midwest this weekend (which I guess he could even skip), and then 6 games at home to finish out the season. Wouldn't it be nice for him to play a 6 game homestand?

That's why I think Royce could go down as one of the league's bigger draft busts. Not because he failed -- many 16th picks do -- it's how he did it. He consistently sabotaged his chances and embarrassed the organization from Day 1. At least Fran Vazquez fled the country after being picked... Royce White pretended to play.

I was high on that pick at the time and thought he'd be a huge fan favorite. I was clearly wrong... but I will say, this career path seemed evident the moment he mysteriously skipped training camp. Unfortunately, it looks like passion for the game does not burn inside this guy.

I don't think Royce White just does damage to the mental illness community, but he should impact the next CBA, in my opinion. The guaranteed contract should not be protected in situations like this.

He just needed that paycheck. Now it's back to business as usual.

I agree that he is a thorn in the Rockets side and I am sure Morey and Alexander just want it all the stop.

However, it was just the 16th pick... White is not blocking other players from playing time and he didn't play reasonable and get a huge extension SO... ultimately he is just another mid round pick.

My guess is that the Rockets will attempt to save face and include his salary in a trade, and infer that he was needed to get the deal done. I think just a flat out release would only make the mistake more glaring.

I agree. The NBA should approach contracts like the NFL and not guarantee all that money.

I believe that since Royce skpped training camp the Rockets have been building a case to void his contract, and protect themselves against lawsuits.

That is why, I believe, that they are not commenting, nor have they commented on the situation.

question about his NBA status: if the league voids his contract due to breach, are there any repercussions in terms of the ability of another NBA team to sign him? Is he simply a free agent and can sign with whatever team whats him for however much?

I get that no team probably would take a risk on him, but from a legal standpoint, I wonder if 'breach of contract' = out of the NBA

um ....can't say i'm surprised. just when he was starting to "round" into shape and perhaps give one hope that he could contribute to this team some day, he goes off the reservation again. He certainly has destroyed anyone else's chances of being public about their anxiety and having an NBA basketball career. So disappointing.

I'm sure of it. Royce has been digging his own hole publicly. The Rockets have kept everything quite. Morey doesn't publicly make any references about him.

If Hoopshype is correct, next year is a guaranteed 1.7 million, years 3 and 4 are a team option.

I'm more concerned with giving a worthless human being 3 million dollars for doing nothing than I am with the Rockets' cap, though. Hope that if things continue on this track, then a way to void the contract and not pay him is found.
