Greatest punter of all time joining a team that has the best DE and LT league? That's some quality on all 3 sides of the ball
agreed. He's pretty much never done it (1 single kickoff in the last 4 years--coincidentally against us--and 16 total kickoffs in 200+ games)...BUT he's always had Janikowski around to beat the hell out of the ball
Is this finally the year our special teams become elite? Wait, Joe is still here? Ahh ****. Nevermind.
Whats wrong with Donnie Jones? He set the team records for gross and net yards last season. Plus he's younger and cheaper
i'd be happy if we went with Donnie Jones but lechler is at least a stud in his own right. More concerning is the kicker position (is Bullock ready????????) and who the F* will step up during kick-offs and kick the damn ball into the end zone? Thats a basic need an the FO needs to address it!!! Thats one thing that I liked about Brett Hartmann...that guy was pretty bad a**
He also had the tendency to shank the ball. I'm all for Lechler if it's a low money deal like the one Dawson signed today with the 49ers
he can be used as a real weapon, been the best punter in the NFL for years. http://youtu.be/Pkp82TgP46U
Jones was 3rd in total punting yards which is a pretty crappy way to evaluate a punter. He was 4th in number of punts and that's the main reason for that. Jones was 11th in punting average (just slightly behind Lechler),13th in net average, and 13th in punts inside the 20(Lechler was 20th and 27th). He was good for us, but saying he was a top 3 punter in the NFL last year is cherry picking stats.
