i still have faith in the dude. He just needs to be given the reins a bit more when running the bench.
He's more like TD than Lin. There is no tempo when he runs the team, too much chaos. When he's asked to solely run the team hes not as effective but he's great in a TD like role.
The 'inconsistent' one according to just had 11 straight games of double digits and 9 games with a 3 point made. And shooting over 40% from 3s for over 1.5 months. Whereas the unbelievable one ran around like a headless chicken, totally killed the offensive flow and contributed to losing the Lead with stupid fouls and running the offense poorly. Overall I like Beverley and he is a pretty good back-up that stills a lot of growing/seasoning ... but man, are we even watching the same game???
dissing bev is meaningless. he is a rookie. he is not supposed to be a starter. you all use a starter standard to measure him. give him time. he may develop into a good backup.
I still think the NBA pace is way to fast for him. I expect improvement from him by next season when the game really slows down.
He was fine tonight. His D is great but his offense is a semi-liability. He needs Harden in there with him.
Really -- I definitely disagree on that. People who the game is too fast for typically can't defend and anticipate loose balls, rebounds and passes the way Beverly can. In fact, his speed is his primary strength. That's what allows him to be so disruptive on defense, grab rebounds, dislodge the ball and get loose balls. To me his weakness is that he is not a strong offensive player or a true point guard. I appreciate how much he has improved his shooting and point guard skills since college, and I think if he plays along side a playmaker like Lin, Harden or maybe even Brooks, that he can be a decent part of a decent 2nd unit offense -- but right now the team often asks him to create the offense when Lin and Harden are sitting -- and that is just not something he has ever been capable of.
Mike why r u dissing on Beverly and bringing up Lin.. Dude I am a Lin fan myself but no need to go this crazy. Lin is doing great but Beverly played well tonight too.
It's not dissing Beverley. I keep saying I like Beverley a lot, he's a pretty good back-up. Even the post you quoted. The dissing is on Coachbadlee, in case you can't pick it up. Read this thread.
The game being too fast for someone has little to do with someone's actual speed. When the game slows down for someone, it means they understand the game, reads situations better, offensively in particular. The can anticipate the next move, where to move, how the ball will be swung, how defenses will react etc. it has really very little to do with if they can stay in front of their man or whether they have quick hands or not.
Yeah read what Mike said. Since the first time I saw him play Bev has been playing so frantically & out of control. That is why I get the vibe that the game is sto fast for him. Once the game slows down I think his decision making will improve & he will show that he can be more of a true PG. But maybe you know more about bev than I do from watching him before he was a rocket.
I agree with you actually -- I should clarify what I meant in relation to Beverly. You are right, there are many fast players who the game is still too fast for, and they often play with hesitation. Beverly does not play with that hesitation though, and he is quite good at anticipating where the ball is going to be and using his speed to get there before the opponent in order to get rebounds, cause turnovers and get loose balls. I don't think those are talents had by a player who the game is too fast for. He is inefficient on offense, but it is not due to playing with too much hesitation (which many young players will play with when the game is too fast for them), rather, it is due to the fact that he has never been that skilled as a play-maker or as the focal point of an offense. Asking him to run your offense is like asking DMo to anchor your defense -- that is just not what they are good at. But, this is a team game, and building a team is about assembling complementary pieces. The team just needs to make sure that Beverly shares the back-court with a better offensive guard whenever he is on the floor. Or run the offense through a skilled offensive front court player like DMo in the post. But asking Beverly to assume Lin's role is as crazy as asking DMo to do so for Asik.
Sure but part of the reason maybe why he struggles to run an offense is because the pace of the game is to fast for him. That is typically how it is with a a lot of young NBA players. One of the reasons why I laugh at people who call Robinson a bust. I am not disagreeing with you. A easy way that you can tell if a player is struggling with the speed of the game is bad defense, a lot of turnovers, sometimes frantic or out of control play, looking lost offensively. I think Bev falls under the frantic part & Robbinson under the looking lost part. But at the same time you are right Bev has to much responsibility out there, but I wouldn't be surprised if the speed of the game doesn't help the situation. Just a few thoughts.
i like bev and his energy, but he has no business being on the court running the show by himself without JL or harden. i don't understand mchale not having JL or harden on the floor at all times.
Let Patrick play for 30 minutes the next 2 games.. if he cant produce 45% FG+ and shoot 33%+ from 3's while dishing out 6.0 assists 14pts and 1.7 steals per game then bench him for life. I guarantee he cant perform at that level for that little minutes. Time to start Aaron Brooks
One of things of I like about Beverly is his creativity on defense. He is really really good at positioning himself in front of a defender in the open court forcing the ball handler to make an awkward body contortion to avoid contact often leading to a turnover. I haven't seen very many people do things like he does on defense.
