Hoping the Shaner comes to Houston. I still want to be able to root for him. Nice get on Reed. Arguably best ball Hawking safety of all time.
I'm stoked about this. I love Reed, and it's gonna be awesome watching him fly around in a Texans uniform.
Just because you make a shot doesn't mean it was a good one. It was pretty ridiculous how the Texans handled this. I'm glad it worked out, but the whole episode leaves me with a very uneasy feeling about Rick Smith.
Hopefully Reed can keep it up at a high performance level. He needs to maintain his stamina. Penetrate the opposing teams offense and do it over and over and over. We can't stand for any limp showings. Just snatch the balls.
Antonio Smith & JJo too...this d is looking pretty good. Add in The other Reed (Brooks) and Mercilus and they could be menacing
Smith got Reed at the price the Texans wanted. That's good work, who cares if it took a few extra days.
The Texans set a price on a position and a player, stuck to their price and got the player they were targeting at a need position without taking away cap flexibility for the core players they need to sign next. What are you b****ing about again?
Splash! Great to see them get their guy without overextending themselves. I'll assume we'll see a wave of minor signings follow now that the cap hit is figured out. I would think that Smith's extension/restructure will happen soon.
It's pretty risky to not set deadlines and allow the process to drag out for nearly a week while most other marquee negotiations were wrapped up within 24-48 hours. All the while not talking to other safeties, not making an offer to Quin and seemingly having no contingency plan. I'm happy it worked out and look forward to having him, but in the big picture, it's not a good possession if Jeremy Lin shoots a 30-footer over two defenders with 10 seconds left on the shot clock, even if he makes it.
So, what safeties came off the board in the past few days, and how do you know the Texans didn't negotiate with anyone else?
Because agents leak almost every meeting there is to the media. It's to the player's interest to have visits publicized because it stirs interest. As to your first question, Glover Quin. The Texans never made him an offer nor engaged in serious discussions. Would I prefer Quin to Reed? No, but I'd prefer him to the Michael Huff tier that's out there now.
