Pleasantly surprised! He was getting decent interest around the league, and Reed-gate seemed to have paralyzed the front office. Shores up our nickel package; I wasn't cheered at the thought of Harris getting a major role.
Huh? The 2011 draft got us JJ Watt, Brooks Reed, Derek Newton, and T.J. Yates. That is not a strike out.
I think his injury last year was part of the reason our defense started to go downhill. We could never stop 3rd and shorts because of passes down the middle. Having Cushing and McCain back should solidify our middle.
Very happy to have him back. He definitely makes an impact when he's out there. The dropoff from McCain to the next man up is steep. I hope the terms are favorable. Also, McCain is young for a CB, he will continue to improve.
I'm happy we are bringing him back. So far the offseason has been bad for the Texans. Hope the change that.
Some ppl on here are funny, when Brice got hurt out secondary suffered. He is one of the best nickel corners in the league and that's why the Texans made him a priority
Yeah, I'm excited about it, figured we'd either lose him since I hadn't heard anything but also was thinking maybe we were waiting on Reed to fall into place first. Either way, can't be too excited or upset until the cap hit number becomes available. Are details out yet?
I agree on the Pats TE's...but who exactly are their remaining weapons at WR? Welker is gone. Brandon Lloyd is likely gone. Julian Edleman is unsigned. They did bring in Danny Amendola (GO HIGHLANDERS!).
I'll admit that the dropoff from McCain to Harris was large but McCain was dissapointing to me last season. He got burned quite often and Allen did a better job as the nickel corner the season prior to last.
I'm not mad about this signing. I'm just a little dissapointed because it's a big difference from being excited about Ed Reed to McCain. We hear nothing from Reed, then we sign Brice McCain. It's like, "yaaay" in a dry voice. I would rather see McCain than Harris and Keo. But it doesn't get the people out of their seats with excitement.
I took it to mean striking out on CB's. By my count, Smith has drafted 12 DB's and only 3 have really done anything. Kareem, Quin, and McCain. Misses on Fred Bennett, Brandon Harrison, Antwuan Molden, Dominique Barber, Troy Nolan, Sherrick McMannis, Brandon Harris, Rashad Carmichael, and Shiloh Keo. The last 3 have time to redeem themselves, but they'll probably end up like the others on the list.
Some of that is coaching, though. If any of the first six players you listed had come here with Phillips, they might have blossomed. They - along with a lot of others - couldn't under Smith/Bush.
I'm glad our front office doesn't base their personnel moves on fan excitement. I'll bet Bills fans were pretty excited when they signed Mario Williams last year. How's that working out for them now?
year 2 mccain was really bad, year 3 was really good, last season he took a step back but we missed him when he was IRd. im not ready to write off harris yet either, it took mccian 3 years before he really stepped up, it took kareem 3 years before he silenced the critics. harris is going into his 3rd year but only played one year so far and very minimal at that, i thought he showed some improvement towards the end of the season..
