Is it really an addiction if you only drink one or two beer when you go out to eat?

i wonder if it's legal to ride a horse on the freeway. i dont think it's against the law to ride a horse while intoxicated.

The answer is of course it depends and can change daily. For example, I have a really high tolerance when it comes to beer. I can go to BW3's and have 3 of the 23 oz beers and be just fine to drive. On the other hand, last night I went to dinner and after 2 glasses of wine I felt really buzzed and asked the wife to drive. It had been a few months since I had drank wine, so I guess it affected me more.

If you are driving... and you cant NOT drink... then yes.

Reading some of these comments is scary "I can handle my drink" "I know my limits" etc

These are the exact people who end up crashing while drunk, killing someone and then saying "i thought i was ok"

As long as I'm eating or moving around or had water in between drinks, it depends. But I don't ever push it.

If I start to have absurd thoughts - like "You know, Jeremy Lin really doesn't get the respect he deserves from McHale. The coach must be out to get him" - then I know I need to either hang back for a while and eat/drink some water, or have someone else drive.

But if I had to answer the OP, I'd say 3 or 4 shots (of, say, Knob Creek, which I like to do when I just want to get buzzed fast) is too many to drive. I don't drink beer so I don't know about that.

I'm not a big fan of wine, but I will have one glass with dinner when out, or one glass of bourbon on the rocks, really no more as I do not enjoy alcohol while eating. If the wife and I are going to have 3 or more drinks somewhere, we ALWAYS Cab it. I have a high tolerance for alcohol for some reason, but I'm not chancing it. It's idiotic.

I use the "Can I Drive Yet" app on my phone as a guide. You put in your weight, the time you start drinking and type of drinks and it calculates approximately what your BAC should be. I only use this as a guide.

2 beer limit on the bike (never spend more than 2 hrs drinking)

3-4 driving the car (again, 2 hrs of drinking)

Of course. And that same BAC level may effect people differently.

I try to limit myself to 4, though I'd like to limit myself further.

Yesterday, which inspired this thread, I had 3 beers (10oz each). They were high gravity beers (ranging from 7.3% - 11% alchol content).

To many factors come to play.

Are you drinking on an empty stomach?
What's your tolerance(do you drink often)?
What is the time period you started drinking and the last one you had?
    Did you eat during drinking?
Did you drink enough water through out the day?
    Drinking water while you drink?
    How much do you weigh?

That said the evening before my day off I can get 6 pack of tall boys(budlight) go over to my girls start drinking at 6pm till 11pm, have sex then dinner around 9:30 and im good to drive 8 miles to my house. Am i buzzing? Pro slightly, im 6'1 205lbs, 30yrs old and been drinking since 16.

Usually about two drinks per hour is my limit if I'm driving (light beer or cocktails), but if I'm out for more than a couple of hours I'll stop after the 3rd or 4th drink. Wine affects me more so i'd say no more than one 8oz glass of that per hour.

Better to be safe than sorry. If I know I am driving back I will not get even close to being buzzed.
