Looking at possibly getting Verizon Fios Internet but the area that I will be in does not have Fios TV currently. So now I am looking between Dish and DirecTV for the TV option. I have Comcast currently bundled internet and tv but Fios dominates the comcast internet speed. Only thing I'd be missing is comcastsportsnet (which I only would watch for Rockets) and the season is nearly over. Thoughts? Alternatives? Also Must have NBATV
Well if the area you want doesn't have Fios you can't get it, so no use comparing it to what is available. From what I've read, Fios isn't looking to expand. I have Uverse and was initially very worried about internet speed, but it's been just as good as Comcast. And that's with streaming 1080p on multiple devices, torrents, XBox Live, etc. Plus they have better prices than Comcast. I've never had a satellite so I can't comment on that, but I have noticed that those with DirecTV seem to love it.
Sorry, I need to be clearer with my statement. I can get Verizon Fios Internet and phone (fuccck the home phone) but no TV option. So I am looking to bundle Verizon Fios Internet with a TV service.
I personally recommend DirecTV over Dish because I like the picture quality better on DirecTV. Here are a couple of threads though that might help you decide between the two. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=232465 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=223805
I had DirecTV for years and loved it. During that time I used Comcast for internet. Those 2 together were pretty much the best option you could get. I moved a few years ago to a house that I couldn't get satellite at, and since then I've had U-Verse for both internet and TV. I've been much happier than expected, with both services. If I was in your situation, I would go with Fios internet and DirecTV. Seems to be the best combo if the price is not a concern. My one complaint with DirecTV is that because they have NFL Sunday Ticket, they didn't offer the regular Red Zone channel. You were only able to get Red Zone if you were a Sunday Ticket subscriber. I was usually able to get around that and convince them to offer me Sunday Ticket heavily discounted or free, but as an NFL fan that always kind of ticked me off. That may have changed since I was with them 2 years ago.
Thanks man, found this very useful. I am leaning towards Dish mainly because I hate the menus of DirecTV. Is that stupid of me though?
I just switched to DirecTV last month. I really like it in comparison to cable. Had cable all of my life pretty much. HD quality is way better. I have the Genie and it's cool, the clients are a bit slow though. Also, if you do plan on going with DIRECTV, PM me and I'll give you a referral so you can save $10 a month for ten months.
Yeah, I think that's stupid. DirecTV's picture quality is easily superior. I never found their menus/DVR's to be much of a pain point.
Yeah, I switched from DISH to DirecTV back in Nov. Pic quality is flat out better with direct, hands down. I like how the Genie gives me whole home DVR, and how small the clients are. But the DVR I had with DISH really was MUCH better than DirecTV's. That said, DirecTV is still my suggestion.
I will be moving out of my apt at the end of this month, and into a new place hopefully by mid April Early May at the latest. DirecTV is something I am not accustomed to. I have Dish and Comcast at my parents place (international channels on Dish) as well as Dish at my office. It sounds like DirecTV is a better company, but those commercials about them getting over on you with their pricing later on. Is that something to be worried about?
Always read your TOS. It's long, but it will tell you how much your rates will go up. Almost all satellite/cable providers have promotional rates that will rise after a year or two. Just compare the fine print between Dish and DirecTV if that's what it's coming down to. Dont' forget to cancel any premium channels that come included if you don't plan on keeping them either.
