He's under contract for this season and next .... with team options for the next two. I have to agree , he lacks NBA talent physicallly .... Whats more troubling to me is his effort level on the court. Ive watched a couple RGV games in the past few days , if he doesnt have the ball in his hands he just stands around and he has no desire to play defense.
The Rockets would probably win if White sued for being cut, but the "risk averse" way of handling the situation is the better choice. It isn't just a matter of winning. The team wants to keep the volume low. If White sues the Rockets because they don't option his 3rd year, indeed, he'll just be pouring money down the drain.
Twit tweeting tweets on twitter! Now try to say this really fast! #Pronunciation #Literacy As for Morey, his legacy as the smartest GM ever (in a field having such luminaries like Kahn, Colangelo and Dumars no less) has been forever stained by: (1) Drafting Royce "Winnebago" White (2) Somehow being blackmailed and publicly trolled by said Winnebago Also, a post on RealGM's equivalent to this thread made my day: "Tie him up to a wing of a plane and don't look back."
Also, LMAO, has anyone actually noticed Royce twitter picture? "Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth."
And that reality will be his demise. He'll sleepwalk through the remainder of his contract and hopefully off the NBA cliff.
Royce White can add to his ever growing list...All Rockets fans desperately want you gone...tough that things didnt work out. But your not about playing the game you love, and what we want to watch. Your all about championing mental health. Bottom line is while that is still a noble cause, your conning/stealing from your job and people that pay good money to watch this game. You have undermined people that have put good faith in you and drafted you in the first round...youre a self absorbed, constant distraction, an enigmatic cancer to the Rockets, and personally i wish you well. But you never shouldve applied to get drafted...you have ruined the chances of any other future college athlete that has publicized mental health disorders. I hope the league office, gives the Rockets a compensatory pick after all this mess...and I hope the Rockets do the right thing and buy you out...and btw...you will be blacklisted in the NBA, so good luck trying to get back into the Association...
It's starting to look like the Rockets and the NBA got played by this guy from the beginning. It smells like the kid never had any intention of seriously attempting to play in the NBA; that his goal from the beginning was to get himself into a spotlight where he could make a spectacle of himself, allegedly in the name of raising 'awareness' or something like that. We may never know totally for sure unless Royce himself actually confesses it, but.. What I am wondering now is, who put him up to this? On the one hand, his naive and totally self-absorbed attitude definitely reeks of the mental and emotional immaturity of an adolescent, or at most someone in his very early twenties. So maybe this all really did come from him and nobody else. Maybe this has all actually been his own grand plan. But I don't know, there is a part of me that is wondering if maybe there isn't some behind-the-scenes string-puller, someone who planted these seeds in Royce's mind, some kind of mentor or adviser or some lawyer-type who convinced him that this was the most effective way of gaining notoriety and therefore to either help his cause (or more likely help himself). Either way, we probably will never know the full truth unless Royce or someone else directly involved comes forward and lays it all out there. One thing is for sure though - Royce is the LAST first-round pick with his brand of mental issues. No NBA team will go near it any more. I could see someone taking a late 2nd flyer on one, but no more guaranteed money and years, nope. Well done Royce.
The notion of an educated guess relies upon Royce to actually have an education. He left college much too early to claim he has an education.
Also, I believe the Rockets are treated as a NBA Franchise so they should be held up to Texas Department of Labor Laws. In Texas, its almost impossible for a contracted employer to sue his employer in these conditions given the fact that it is a "Right to Work" state. Meaning, they can fire you at any time, for any or NO reason at all. If for some reason, the Rockets violated federal law in being un-accomodating to a disability, then I believe it would go past Texas Law and be held up in Federal Court. This is why the Rockets bent over backwards about the travel issues, and have crossed their T's and dotted their I's to go through the NBA and NBPA lawyers for any addendums added to Royce's contract that allowed him to have special priviledges. If Royce wants to sue the Rockets, or the NBA, he has alot of things coming his way. However, he does seem like a guy who is striving to become a martyr of sorts... maybe he just gets off on this kind of thing regardless of winning or losing. Either way, Royce will get a training camp invite next Summer, but I see it being very difficult for him to earn that team option the Rockets will have the contractual ability to decline for 2014/15. Royce is going to have to have one hell of a Summer and training camp for the Rockets to make that investment, and not cut him at some point during the 2013/14 season.
Lawsuits aren't always about winning. It's likely he already knows that he'd lose just about any case if it went to court. He's probably hoping they'd rather settle out of court and pay him some lump sum to just go away. I hope they don't and they take it to the bitter end, crushing him.
He's averaging about 5 points a game coming off the bench in the D- League. His level of delusion is just off the charts. Royce you're not playing because you stink! There is no conspiracy to keep you in the D- League. Play well and you'll get a call up, otherwise you'll stay there. It's no more complicated than that. The Rockets are a young playoff team fighting for a playoff berth. Yes, we don't need your sideshow as a distraction.
What legal obligations? Please don't buy Royce White's BS, if push comes to shove and he and the Rox goes into a legal fight, who do you think will win? The multi-million organization or the dude who promised the Rockets his mental illness wouldn't be a problem and then bailed on summer league? Him complaining about not having special arrangements made for guys of his condition would be equivalent of me coming up to my boss and demanding a 1 hour siesta time every day because I get sleepy after lunch. #body condition The Rockets don't have to give him all sorts of accomodations because working in the NBA isn't a right, it's a privelage. White is taking the Rocket's money of his own free will, he should do as the org asks no questions asked. If this went to court the hearing would be over in a few days, White would be up to his ass in lawyer's fees for losing his case. I mean, this is the dude who swore up and down on tape his condition wouldn't be a problem, and then asked for a bus to SL, and then didn't go anyway after the Rox gave him his bus.
