That is allowed. They're not doing it in secrecy. For stuff like grapes, berries, nuts, small grains, etc. You're not comparing that to out right STEALING a watermelon, are you? If a store clerk or owner comes up to me and says "you're stealing", then I am. Until then, it is allowed. Now, try to be a sneak and put those same nuts or berries or grapes in your pocket, and try to walk out... see what happens.

a VERY interesting story: One night (around 3AM) I went to a 7-11 to get some gatorade because I was so dehyrdated from alcohol (been drinking all day). I saw this bald white guy with a bunch of tattoos..he quickly stole something from the counter when the small asian guy at the counter looked away. The thief looked right at me with scary eyes. I wanted to tell the 7-11 employee, then i thought..no point getting stabbed or shot over a damn hat. 5 seconds later he walked out, and 5 seconds after that 2 cops walked in. I told them right away..that guy who just left stole a hat, they ran out and grabbed him. Got the hat and apologized to the asian employee. As I left from my car, the thief was staring at me like he was going to kill me while he was in cuffs. So I said, "sorry man, I saw you take it right infront my eyes" and drove off. Thank god for the cops otherwise I did not feel safe speaking up against that guy.
Terrible reasoning. I am not responsible for your house or anything others do in it. Should I not report if I see your house being broken into?
Absolutely not. Snitches get stitches. Real ballers would violently harm the trespassers themselves, regardless of whose house it is. No snitching needed.
Estimates are that something like 13 billion in goods are shoplifted in the USA every year and that there are 27 million people (1 in 11) who have shoplifted. You can't tell me that the rest of us aren't paying for that in higher costs. That loss has to be passed on to someone...the companies sure as hell aren't gonna eat it all. As a former retail manager, I can tell you how god damned frustrating it is to deal with them. I worked for one of those "big" faceless retail companies and there would be times when groups of them would come in. You know what they are there for, they know you know, and STILL they wait for a moment to steal. Sometimes they would stay for HOURS. Even when we would successfully deter shoplifting, work grinds to a halt. Imagine if every day or so, people would come to your workplace...would steal (or attempt to) and interrupt your work while you had to quietly deal with their presence. Lastly, if you somehow feel the big companies "deserve" this, think about the employees for a second. They are the ones held accountable and sometimes lose their jobs over this. They are the ones stressed out dealing with this in their daily lives. They are the ones who get sued if they make any sort of mistake in apprehension. Hell, I've even been threatened over the phone by someone I detered who called back and said he'd be waiting for me after work. Snitches get stiches? WTF is this.....some sort of moronic juvenile gang code? Grow the F up.
No you shouldn't. I would have a security alarm system. If people break in and it doesn't go off, then it's that security systems fault. If you were family, that's different. But if it's just some random person, I wouldn't expect them to report my house being broken into.

That is different. I'd report somebody I saw breaking into my neighbor's house. 1) I want them to do the same for me 2) What if somebody is home and they are attacked/raped/kidnapped? 3) That guy might stop at my house next Stealing from a store is often difficult for you to know 100% for sure. You would have to follow from the point of removing the item from the store all the way through walking out to know, and that isn't your responsibility. That is reason I wouldn't call out a stranger stealing. Somebody I know, the snitch rule applies. I'll say something to them, rather than the store.
i haven't the slightest idea what you mean, nor do I see any jokes of which you have said. I do know however that a joke isn't any good if you have to tell the people it's a joke. ok "bro", it's easy for you to say that it's their choice if they want to use violence and blah blah blah be the bigger man, but this is real life. there are people out there that wouldn't think twice to serve a life sentence for stabbing someone for simply looking at them the wrong way. just because you want to be captain ethical doesn't mean you're invincible all of sudden. i feel people like you have never gotten into a fight or jumped. you can't file a lawsuit against someone if you're dead.
and another thing; just because one wouldn't snitch doesn't mean they are immoral. quite the contrary. I think it's quite moral to value the well being of your life, rather than not and sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. I mean there's always an asterisks next to any situation. If it's a kid, then yeah. If it's someone who clearly does not pose a threat, then yeah. Half of you talking the good talk and fighting the good fight I bet are cowards and wouldn't say a damn word. how dare the lot of yall criticize those whom clearly think higher of themselves and do not prefer being put in a dangerous situation. common sense.
It is absolutely their choice. You are correct that there are people out there that will kill for the wrong look, but there aren't very many of them. Odds are that the people who are doing the shoplifting aren't that stupid and willing to throw their lives away. Those are the odds. Again someone can jump me, stab me, or kill me for doing the right thing, then I'm dead and they're the ones suffering. If I do doing the right thing, then I have nothing to regret. I'm not going to let fear keep me from making the right choice. I'll take whatever the consequences are. Just like the people who make the wrong choice will have to live with the consequences as well.
