My comment on this has nothing to do with an agenda driven talking point. It comes from working on these mortgages every day in bankruptcy cases, having represented both debtors and lenders.

The GSEs were undercapitalized. That's a fact. When they started going belly up, it exacerbated the problem.

If you really think that the under capitalization of the GSEs along with the CRA amendments signed by President Bush did not contribute to the problem, then you probably haven't familiarized yourself with its requirements.

Is it "the" cause of the meltdown? Of course not. Was it a contributing factor? Absolutely. Another big cause was the buying of bond ratings for the MBS. How there was not an investigation of that is beyond me.

Every time I see this guy talk, I like what he has to say. He's worth keeping an eye on for 2016. A real dark horse candidate but refreshingly candid and smart.

The answer is, Democrats are trying to destroy Republicans' America, and Republicans are trying to destroy Democrats' America - both of them believe this is for the good of the country. There is no such thing as a single version of America. Anyone who implies differently is, generally speaking, trying to twist your emotions to achieve their own version of America.

Perhaps, but that is the perception.

I didn't say that they are or are not racist, I said they want to be in the position to argue that they are not racist. I don't believe that most Republicans view themselves as racist.

Not sure if wingnuts like bassodore understand how rapidly the shock value of "HEY LOOK WE GOT A BLACK GUY/WOMAN/CUBAN!" diminishes in this day & age and pretty much gets them no points, no votes, no nothing.

In fact, given their aptitude to create their own unskewed reality, I'm sure they think it's a surefire winner.

The failure is the message. Not the messengers. Though they are doucheclowns too.

Yes, that is the only reason Republicans want Carson to run for office. Damn, you figured them out fast. I guess they'll have to revert back to the ol' white guy...what is ignorant is your racist belief that only democrats care about minorities.

I don't think he made the claim you are saying he did. Nowhere did he say only Democrats care about minorities.

It is true that Republican policies are not beneficial and often harmful to minorities and that Republicans and not Democrats in the last election formed strategies to keep minorities from voting.

But that doesn't mean that there aren't well intentioned Republicans.

yes, although if nothing else, the experience of the past 5 years should have taught us that not everyone who can give a nice speech should run for office. it might get you elected, but governing effectively is an entirely separate skill set.

though it's nice to see a guy talk coherently for 25m w/ just notes.

No, but this is the standard perception of democrats. He says Republicans only want a black presidential candidate because the ignorantly believe it will give them the White House. Going further, he is essentially saying Republicans don't care about blacks, unless it helps them, which is completely untrue. I also believe it is untrue that you can make such a blanket comment, that Republican policies are bad for minorities. You can pick certain policies from either party that is harmful to minorities, harmful to women, harmful to business, harmful for agriculture, etc. But cherry-picking policies to make it seem like one party is racist and the other is the savior of anyone not white is offensive and ignorant.

If that is not what he intended by his statement, I apologize, but I do believe that was his intent.

No, not every policy Republicans make are harmful to minorities, but some are, and I don't believe there are any Democrat policies that are.

The 4 point plan to throwing a long-term Republican hissy fit:

    1. After losing the prior election, create a "grass-roots movement" that represents the real America. The less teeth and less education that the members of this group have, the better. Make sure that they scream loud and have lots of signs, preferably those depicting the President (your mortal enemy) as Hitler. Make sure to have a token black guy show up to each event armed with an assault rifle so that your movement can be deemed diverse.

    2. Create a yearly event where the brightest of the brightest from your party show up to speak (preferably the leaders from the more educated states like Alaska and Texas). It is also important that the speakers thoroughly discuss their devout Christianity so that those Muslims know who is in charge (Jesus). Make sure that ticket prices are only around $1,000 so that average Americans can attend. Also, be sure to have a token black speaker at each event so that your movement is still considered diverse.

    3. Hold a nearly two-year-long presidential primary race with as many debates as possible so that the candidates within your party can show off their many different positions on issues such as tax policy and abortion. Make sure to have a token black candidate so that the primary race can be considered diverse. (BTW, make sure that the fat RINO from New Jersey does not get through security)

    4. Nominate wealthy caucasian male candidate for president.

Once you have unskewed the polls in the days leading up to the next presidential election, you will find yourselves on the way to a dominating victory in your quest to take back America.
