It's the best online paper for the Houston area, way better than the weak ass Chronicle. At least for us inner loopers who dig all of the reviews for food/ happenings around town, to see our pics from charity events, read up on HOUSTON related stuff without the **** the Chronicle puts out, etc. I take 'em with a grain of salt on sports though. They're trying, just failing on the sports end.

The whole paper may overstate the situation but I like what is written in the article:

I would add Asik in the equation. Those four are the best players we have. If I were Mchale, I will bet on them w/o any hesitation.

It really hurts your credibility to publish headlines with misspellings ("shackel"), but hey, maybe Culturemap ain't about English. . . .

Worse, comparing Lin to a slave in shackles is WAY out of line.

Otherwise, I am completely mystified why Les Alexander has not hired Chris Baldwin as coach ;)

On the other hand, maybe "shackeling" is something I don't know about. . . .

this is an idiotic article. If you're complaining about a point guard not getting enough touches, you know nothing about basketball. And it's been said a million times before- the Rockets don't draw up plays for guys, its about movement and getting open.

What the hell is CultureMap? OP must be 2012er LOF n00b to post this article.

But yeah it's ridiculous for the obvious reasons. He's the PG. He has the ball in his hands nearly every possession. Plus, 16 field goal attempts is pretty dang good.

harden never used to do this before the all star break though? Only started doing this recently. I don't understand what he is thinking, padding his assist totals or protecting his FG%. Either or he needs to cut it out.

    This I agree with.

the key of this paper is not really about how many shots he should have. it's about whether our coaches trust him or not. if you're looking for #s, you clearly don't get what the writer was trying to point out.

    That's quite a definitive accusation.

harden iso is good for when we have a lead and need to protect the lead and run out the clock. but not when we're trying to catch up! harden is NOT a pg and should not play as pg so early in Q4. all those dribbling out the clock and pass to teammate when defense commits to him amounts to nothing last night and only kept he ball out of the hot hand.

    Bad article is bad.

Uh, what? Harden is the only player on the team who has isolations called for him. Parsons is never 'highlighted' in that way. By far most of his scoring is within the flow of the offense, making his move after catching the ball from one of our penetrating guards. Highlighted? He makes his shot within the offense.

Wrong. Only Harden is ever force fed. There's a difference. Personally, I'm fine with that difference, because Harden is better at delivering in those isolation end-of-game situations.

I have to agree with Clutch's highlighting of this stupid sentence. 16 Shots is a lot of shots for one player to take in an NBA game! Go take a look at some box scores, fool! Here, in this article, the author bothers to take last night's game as an example of Lin being excluded from the offense when:
    Parsons 2-13
    Harden 6-16
    Lin 9-16
Lin is tied for most shots in the game! And because he hit 3 more times than Harden, he must be 'force fed?' With what, a high pick & roll? How many damn times did I just watch Lin get a high pick last night? Jeez.

I hate it that something this poorly written was published.

It took me an unreasonable number of seconds to figure out what the heck "shackeling" meant. I actually googled it to make sure it wasn't some word I just didn't know. The article seems fairly in line with that headline.

According to Zach Lowe, Parsons is 3rd, behind Asik. :p:grin:

I don't see the point of creating a new topic for this article. There are plenty of dumb articles on Lin being "shackled" or how the coaches mistreat him. Bleacher Report comes out with one every other week. It's just inviting people to troll and argue, and there's already enough of that in game threads.

Technically, shackel is an actual word, but has a different meaning than shackle.

    shackle - bindings or chains
shackel - a section of gil netting

    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/shackel

Unless of course they suddenly decided to use Middle English, where the original spelling of shackle actually was shakel... close but still not spelled correctly.

    Origin of SHACKLE
Middle English schakel, from Old English sceacul; akin to Old Norse skǫkull pole of a cart

    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/shackle

I'm guessing it got missed by spell checker. Either that or the author is a 13th century time traveler with poor spelling.

exactly. this is not really on mchale. he didn't take the ball out of lin's hands. it's just that when harden decides to play pg in Q4, the ball movement dried up. harden is s a great scorer and good passer, but he is not a pg and shouldn't be doing that unless we have a lead with 2 minutes to go.

If they were reputable then they certainly are not anymore.

That is exactly the kind of crap that makes it hard to want Jeremy on the team, and that's ashamed because I think almost all of us on this like Jeremy and want him to be great.

Headline writer is usually different guy than article writer. So there are probably at least two people there who need to work a bit on their fact checking.

Ehh..personally I thought mchales been much better with lins usage since the dallas debacle. I feel like he's been using him just right. My issue with him these days is hardens incredibly high minutes and his strange manlove for delfino at the pf
