This IS a real issue which few are willing to discuss. No one stays here long enough to develop team chemistry.
Seriously, folks are STILL asking this question? 1. Youngest team in the NBA. 2. Least Experienced team in the NBA. 3. Highest roster turnover in the NBA... only ONE player on the roster from last year in the rotation. If the Rockets make the play offs, they will be the youngest team in NBA to make the play offs? Do folks think that's an accident? Young players play poor defense. Veterans exploit their lack of experience. Young players lack rounded skill sets. It takes time to work on weak parts of their game. Young players take time to adjust to the size, speed and complexity of the NBA game. Young players take time to adjust to a full season schedule. NCAA players play once a week, pro's play 2-4 times per week. NCAA player seasons are 30 games, with a maximum of 40 games if you make the big tournaments. The NBA season has double the games. Seriously, that the Rockets are looking like they'll be in the play offs AT ALL is amazing. Do you understand how many teams would KILL to be in the Rockets' position? Youngest team, most inexperienced roster, with a potential Superstar and multiple solid rotational players and loads of cap room to boot? Already competing for a play off spot? Honestly, some folks have NO clue how lucky they are, or how Good this team is in relation to how good we have a right to expect them to be...
One is youth. Rox did not get up for a team they beat three times, even though the game had serious implications. They are very moody about getting psyched for games. 1B is turnovers due to squirreliness, i.e. youth. Two is weak defense. Good defense is the most consistent part of the game. Three is the unpredictability of shooting rather than going to the rim. Four is the trades.
Agreed, our pick setters really need to learn how to set a proper pick. When Klay or Steph gets a pick, they're WIDE OPEN and they just pop a jumper or continue driving. Our help defense is no where in sight.
this x 100000000 is it really that hard to comprehend why this team, supposedly the least experienced team to EVER be in playoff contention in NBA history according to morey, is inconsistent? let's not overthink things folks.
We are the youngest team in the nba you expect that on a young team. When you see guys like Lin putting 20plus points, Asik putting double doubles & Parsons looking like he could be an improved version of Battier that's good for a young team. Oh and by the way we currently hold 7th in the West
Any poster that doesn't say Youth first and foremost is being silly. You can have all the gameplan in the world, but telling a toddler to perform ballet is just as ridiculous as expecting this young team to be a contender THIS YEAR. Because that's what contenders do: Be Consistent. Hell, listen to what McHale said about Miami's 22-game streak; he's impressed. And he's impressed because it takes a whole lotta focus to be able to lock in for 22 games in a row. It takes championship-level focus to be able to be THAT consistent. The Rockets aren't champions this year; but these bumps on their road is what is going to make them stronger further down the line.
Youth. And we live and die by the outside shot. If it's falling we're hot. If it's not then we are one of the worst teams in the league because we have nothing to fall back on inside.
Any rebuild will have a lot of turnover. Whether or not there's a lot of activity this season will tell us whether or not Morey truly is a trade junkie or not. I would venture that, unless a good deal presents itself, that most of the team stays intact. Maybe we sign a veteran guy in the offseason or buy a pick, maybe Jones gets traded at the next deadline, but other than that I think most of the guys will stay.
do people trly not understand what it means to be the youngest team? we have 2 real vets. 3 players with new contracts and the rest still within the rookie contract. we have one rotation player who played with coach last year. how is it people dont understand how this all translate??
why are the warriors so inconsistent? why are the brooklyn nets? why are the knicks? the lakers (they're not young)? the hawks? there are about 10 consistent teams in this league, 5 consistently good and 5 consistently bad. the rest of the teams play pro basketball where any team can easily destroy any other team on any given night. calm the **** down
1) Defense is unpredictable from half to half. When we're trying, we seem to be pretty good. If our head isn't in the game, we're soft as butter. 2) Other than Harden and maybe DMo/TRob, we're a team of old and young roll players. Parsons, Lin, and Asik are all good and have the potential to be a great supporting cast, but they aren't future all-stars. DMo and TRob have the potential to be more than that, but they're at least 2 years away.
When you lay down this much truth and perspective Torocan, you can expect the majority of clutchfans to not hear such common sense and perspective no matter how many times you post it. We are in a great position, making playoffs would be a big plus.
First of all, obviously youth is gonna be the greatest contributer to inconsistency... but I think most of us see more than an occasional questionable rotation or gameplan.... once again, I like McHale's hardnosed attitude and mentorship, but I think todays NBA requires a little more x's and o's management to reach the pinnacle... Also, I think DM figures this team has great potential - but it's not there yet. So let's get some heavy minutes for DMo n TRob and see if we strike gold - or at least get an idea of what we got goin forward. Not to mention, get them some real minutes and try to inflate their value as trade bait pieces for the next star....vs PPat and MMo - who we pretty much saw the ceiling - unimpressive.... course, then McHale plays delfino at the 4....
My thoughts exactly, Morey is trying to build up the value of D-League level players so that he can flip them for a better asset. Like the guy who buys up foreclosed houses to flip them and buy a mansion .... someday. He doesn't know how to build a "team", just collecting assets for the next trade. The pieces never fit together.
