Sacramento is just a screwed up franchise from ownership on down Portland has the misfortune of getting plagued with injuries. Imagine if Brandon Roy was still running with them or if Oden had panned out. At least they got ROY Lillard who I think is a top 15 PG so I think they'll be coming together Pacers are doing quite well compared to large market teams with marquee players
At least he got some winning out of it of 50 win seasons and then yeah the eventual ring, unlike the Knicks. The Knicks are terrible. lol. Spent twice as much as the Lakers and made the playoffs twice I think in that time frame.
Interesting way to consider the way a franchise manages money. I agree with the San Antonio observation...extremely efficient.
It's interesting the Spurs managed to pay so little relative to their decade of being championship team
If the Lakers keep their roster as currently constructed, they will take over the #1 spot on that list after this coming season. They are on the hook for a $100,000,000+ tax bill if they keep their underachieving, ridiculously coddled roster intact. I would love to see that happen LOL
I'd say for ratio of hyped contendor to lux tax spending, that San Antonio paid the least, followed by Houston who shoulda paid more. Phoenix franchise is known for being cheap, and paid way more than the Rockets. (And yes, it shows the constraints that Darren Morely has to work under for the Rockets)
That's some interesting info. OKC never paid luxury taxes, and they traded Harden to avoid paying it in the future. Guess their owner really is cheap. Oh well, their loss is our gain.
Why, the guy has avoided the luxury tax like a a plague. We could've use some firepower during the Tracy-Yao golden years, yet we stayed with guys JVG brought in who couldn't play basketball. Seriously, the coach and those two deserve a lot of credit for that 04-07 record, 05-06 excluded. Jon Barry, Sura & Deke could play but for the rest it was mostly scrubs and downright terrible players. Alexander should've let it all out on the line during those years and sign at least one more good to great player. Even now, I cannot imagine him going into luxury tax even if we could get Dwight + 9-11 million PF like Millsap or someone.
Paying the luxury tax doesn't necessarily mean you're going to win (although I know it has helped the Mavs, Lakers and Celtics lately...and thank god the new CBA put an end to that BS). What it often times means is that your team has made some really bad choices. New York must have been the best run franchise from 2001-2012...they spent almost $200 million in luxury tax.
