It's not the missed dunk. You can't tell me I'm not watching him when you are clearly ignoring the several wtf plays he has every game. There is a reason he only played 5 minutes today, even when D-Mo was crapping the bed.

It's good if it's true that he's a hard worker, because he has a lot of ground to cover to be even a solid rotation player, let alone a star.

Trob is already a great rebounder u can't dispute this at all guys gets 4 rebounds in 5 min every game. His decent at defense already. His offense needs alot of wrk but he has the skill set and athletism to be a very good offensive player. Trob knows how to play basketball and knows what he wants to do on offense the thing is..... He's a rookie Carl. Patterson was a 4 yr starter at Kentucky he is what he is dude hasn't gotten better or worse since his rookie yr. we know you don't like Trob you don't have to make a new thread or post 5 times on each page I tell ppl this. Some of the moves he makes on offense you can't teach it's instinct and if you can't see this you didn't play ball. All these players like Jhill and thabeet nvr did drop step spin moves for layup dunks ever in the limite time Robinson has played he's shown potential he has a nice release on his shot to were there's no doubt that he will get much better at shooting in the future.

Could he be a bust? Of course. But he is by no means a busy right how like you seem to think. Everyone but you seems to know that it takes longer time for bigs to adjust to the speed of the game on offense once the game slows down for him an it will as it does for all players he will be a great big man. Ill out money right now on it that unless we get a proven star pf Nxt yr that Trob will be the starter by Nxt season. Give the kid an offseason with good coaching and shooting practice and this kid will be a beast. If he was on a bad team with no talent and was getting 30 min a night I gaurentee he'd be avg 12 and 10 right now. Does he turn the ball over yes. Does he make rookie mistakes yes. Have I seen him do things no other big on our team can do yes.

As soon as he gets comfortable with a face up 15 ft jumper no one defender will be able to stop him from going right by them if there worried about his jumper. His handle and quickness is insane for a big guy plus he hustles and try's hard.

Rebounding is the only thing that Robinson does well. But remember that Joey Dorsey could always rebound at a high rate in his limited minutes, too. He just wasn't good at the rest of NBA basketball and wasn't very useful.

Perhaps Thomas Robinson can follow Joey's footsteps and have a successful career in Greece.

Also, both Robinson and Patterson came out for the draft after 3 years in college.

Every rookie has several WTF plays in every game. That's why it's hard for any of them to see the court and why coaches would rather throw out a old boring vet who doesn't seem to do much vs the young rookie.

It's not a excuse for him but it's just the way it is. This is why some rookies go high just because teams think they could fit in right away even if at best they are a decent player, you'll see a guy go in the lottery only because teams think he could be a decent player right away.

Morey wants star players though, and you do not get star players without taking a risk. Even getting James Harden was a risk because he could have very well been the next Joe Johnson.

Robinson isn't very good right now, but that doesn't mean he can't get better. If he's as hard a worker as pretty much everyone says he is then he'll get it, especially here in Houston. Most guys who are hard workers prove their worth sooner or later.

Chuck Hayes and even Jeremy Lin are proof of this.

You could be right. It's not impossible for Robinson to be a star. It's just very unlikely in my opinion. There are too many things he needs to work on :

    Misses rotations on defense
Too short to defend real power forwards like Dirk, Bosh or Lee.
    Bad jump shot
    Bad free throw shooter
Turns the ball over too much
Bad in the post and we need our PF to be a good post player.

Only thing he has going for him is good rebounding and his athleticism. In fact, he is perhaps only good at rebounding because of his athleticism. So considering all of the things he has to work on, would you honestly bet on him becoming a star ?

Lin is just a special case. He is the exception to the rule. Hopefully you are right though.

I wouldn't bet on anyone being a star. It's unlikely that anyone is a star...but you have to at least have a chance.

Did Patterson have that chance? I don't think so, I don't think other teams thought so either because Morey definitely would have got a lot more for him.

I think most NBA scouts/GMs do think Robinson has potential, there are reasons they think this it's not just a blind assumption. They see his skills and as the poster above said. If he developed a mid range jumper he instantly becomes a useful player. If he's a hard worker he'll have a better mid-range shot by next year as players can always improve shooting.

I don't think there is any question that TRob has skills, and potential, and that he will get better. However it is already 65 games into the season and we can see that this improvement will probably be slow--not month to month (like Lin) but year to year. I think in three years TRob will be as good if not better than PPat, and that in his fourth year he will be better. However I also think that knowing Morey, TRob will have by that time (3 years from now) been long since traded.

Tonight vs. the Lakers PPat was 9/12 for 22 pts, also he had 5 boards, played solid defense and with an all around polished, error-free game. TRob is still 2 or 3 years away from that. And in the meantime the Rox are a completely different team--can't even score 100 points. Should the Rox sacrifice this season and next season so that we can develop a rookie who maybe will develop in his third year? :(

Damian is not better than Davis.

Robinson is a bust after a handful of games?

Patt is a role player & that is his ceiling. Patt's rebounding won't get better. Rebounding is an instinct which Ppatt just lacks. Some guys have it some guys don't. Lin harden are all good rebounders for there position it is instinctive for them. Ppatt lacks that instinct.

Not sure I understand all this slurping for Patterson. Fans wanted his head when he was here & were clamoring for Dmo & Jones. Now Ppatt is gone & we see Rob & Dmo & fans are clamoring for Ppatt. Grass is greener syndrome to the max.

LOL at Robinson becoming an All Star. I have actually grown on the guy and he is a Rocket, that is all that matters to me and I will root for him..

I doubt He will ever eclipse Patterson or become an AS for that matter...

the odds of that happening ...are extremely low.

This season definitely he is. He's pretty much ROY and it hasn't been close all year. But I guess that's another thread but I agree with the rest of your post.

Definitely grass is greener, People seem to forget how much we used to get on Patterson and how people actually wanted him gone.

He has a better shot at becoming a all-star than Patterson. That's entirely the point.

The chances are low for every player that comes into this league that they will be a all-star player.

If he develops a mid range shot he'd be better than Patterson simply because he rebounds and is actually decent at defense which is huge for a rookie because rookies usually absolutely suck on defense.

Can he develop a mid-range shot? Who knows, but a lot of players can develop a shot if they just work hard enough. Look at Parsons and Lin for example.

Right now TRob is averaging 4.8 ppg and 4.5 rpg per 15.6 min. He is an average defender at best, won't ever be a shot block leader in the league, is not an etremely talented passer, or steals guy. His free throw percentage is at 54. And he has small hands which means he will fumble lots of balls with turnovers (one Sac fan on Clutchfans has even referred to TRob as a "turnover machine")

Name one all-star, past or present, who in his rookie year had numbers this low. Name even one...

Robinson will not become an Allstar for the Houston Rockets. He will likely get flipped for a 2nd round pick in a year or so. This team doesn't have the kind of patience to "develop" a player for years unless he proves himself a rotation player fairly soon. The Rockets are perfectly ready bait on even what they view as "high ceiling" guys after having him for a while.

Just look at Marcus Morris-- drafted because they were high on his ceiling and shipped out after a season and a half (and only 54 games worth of real playing time). The Rockets are not going to hang on to Robinson for too long just because he has potential which may or may not get realized.

In fact, chances are this offseason HOU will be chasing a free agent big like Josh Smith, leaving Motiejunas, Robinson, Jones and Smith to fight over whatever minutes are left at PF or C. Whoever loses the battle for these limited minutes are likely gonna get shipped out fast.

No he isn't. Damian has stayed healthier & has played way more minutes. Doesn't mean he is better. That reminds me Hornets coach is a moron for not playing Davis more minutes, just like Detroit coach is a moron over not playing Andre Drummond more minutes. If Andre & Davis were playing as many minutes as Damian, they would be the ROY candidates. Both Drummond & Davis will have better careers than Damian. I would take Anthony & Andre all day over Damian.

Sorry I know I am derailing the thread lol. I just don't think that Damian is as clear cut ROY as everybody says he is. But honestly ESPN is really pushing this whole Damian for ROY thing hard, & we are in a PG era so why am I not surprised.

Well you are giving a very specific criteria, he's had a bad rookie year. There are many guys who have had bad rookie years and become great players.

Ben Wallace, Billups, Rondo, Dirk, Nash...

None of those guys looked to be stars and 4 of them are a lock for the Hall of Fame. Also 4.5 rebounds in 15 minutes is good, not bad.

Being a average defender your rookie year is actually a accomplishment, not a negative.

Lillard is better for this year, health does have a lot more to do with it but yeah...if Yao and Roy were healthy things would still be a lot different. Players can be great but they are of no use in a suit on the bench, Rockets and Blazers fans know that all too well unfortunately.

I agree that I'd take both of them over Damian and I feel like Damain will be one of those ROYs that kind of fades off into the distance like Emeka Okafor and Tyreke Evans...but he's producing right now better than any rookie and I can't take that away from him.

But yeah coaches are reluctant to play rookies, just goes to show you that even when Morris and Patterson were combining for 5 poitns and a rebound some nights they would still play because they had more experience than Jones or D-Mo. That's just how most coaches are.

Okay...those are some good examples, however TRob is a bit of a different situation than all those guys. Ben Wallace and Dirk are freaks of nature, lets face it. Outside of Shaq there was no center in the league with the physical giftings of Ben Wallace, he just had to learn how to use those giftings. Dirk is a 7 footer with an amazing jump shot, and who also had to adjust to the NBA game. Your other examples are all guards. Usually when all-stars come into the league you can tell right away that they have "got something," and even though they at first might struggle. TRob definitely has definitely got "something", but I just don't think its all-star potential.

Like i said in another thread. He isn't getting minutes in D-League or in the NBA. He's like the subway guy in the movie "Ghost". Trapped between two worlds.
