I think lost ball is more dangerous, that could be a steal by opponent, and lead to a fast break and easy basket. When you lost ball out of bounds, then the opponent need to in bound the ball, whereas the team would have time to get back for defense.

Nice charts, btw what does lost ball exactly mean? Steals? Also Asik sure does like the 3 sec violations lol

I think he has more cases did not catch the ball, and that would count as James and Jeremy's bad pass, but not on Asik though.

Lost balls = opponent steals. It's understandable because Harden handles the ball more than Lin thus there are more opportunities for the opponent. Regardless, both of them need to cut it down a little bit. Personally, I think McHale should be fine for this team not because he's good at X's and O's but because he's a great motivator. But the team really needs to hire a good assistant that can devise better offensive sets. We can't overly rely on the playmaking skills of Harden and Lin. That is aside from acquiring good backups. If Morey can make the right moves this summer, Rockets can be a legit contender.

I wonder how Jeremy's traveling turnovers rate with other PGs in the league.

What exact is "eye test"? Perceptions based on appearance?

good stuff but harden has more turnovers in the 4th because he has the ball in his hands more...especially the last 5 minutes. Lin brings it up and hand it to him. Then harden dribbles and goes iso for 22 seconds and either drives or passes nearly every possesion.

"Lost ball" tend to happen a lot NEAR the basket, which is a common byproduct of a player who drives to the basket aggressively and forces opposing players to make a play on the ball and/or foul to protect the basket.

LOL...that was quite controversial back with Coach Sampson before....yes, perception based on appearance and on what you see...

Wait, I don't get the graphs.

    For Harden:
    Bad pass: 107/230=46.5%
    Lost ball: 72/230=31.3%
    Offensive foul: 29/230=12.6%
Out of bounds lost ball: 10/230=4.3%

    And for Lin:
    Bad pass: 103/185=55.7%
    Lost ball: 32/185=17.3%
    Offensive foul: 14/185=7.6%
    Traveling: 14/185=7.6%
Out of bounds lost ball: 8/185=4.3%

Or am I reading these wrong? The general trend stands (except for Harden having more lost ball turnovers than bad passes), but I thought ~15% of Lin's turnovers coming from traveling sounded really high!
