Patterson is being asked to use more of his offensive arsenal with the Kings, it seems. Saw him with some nice crisp post moves tonight, also some good looking passes to open shooters and cutters.

Perhaps the Rockets use of him as a spot up shooter was constraining his development.

Robinson played enough in Sacramento for Morey to value Robinson over Patterson.

All-star potential still means a ton if the guy hasn't even played a season yet. Most GMs realize that guys are going to break out before their rookie contract ends.

Well, Morey's assembled teams have been in the lottery 3 years and counting.

Not to mention, teammates love PPat and build strong team chemistry.

On March 17th the principals in the trade performed again.

Thomas Robinson: 0 points (0-2 field)
Francisco Garcia: 0 points (0-2 field)

Patrick Patterson: 22 points (9-12 field)
Toney Douglas: 11 points (5-10 field)

While the Douglas replacement Patrick Beverley goes 0-4 for 0 points.

    Nice job, Morey.

Robinson played enough in Sacramento for the Kings to trade Robinson for Patterson.

It appears the Kings had seen enough.

and how much do you think those actually played like an all-star will cost to get? Always trade for potential, if fail once, do it twice.

That's because we lost two superstars for pretty much nothing in return and now he has done a great job of rebuilding.

Is it that hard for you to give him credit for a job well done?

You know what? I'm not sure Morey's goal in the trade was "which players will be better in a couple weeks?"

The point is, Robinson's potential does not look as good now as he was at the draft (because people have seen him play in the NBA), or else you wouldn't be able to get him for Patterson.

Patterson is clearly a better player than Robinson now, even without accounting for the chemistry consideration. Will Robinson develop into something better than Patterson? We'll see. The problem is, at this point, this is not a season to waste for future development. We are fighting for a playoffs spot. We even have a chance to get to a seeding where we can get a good match up.

    Exactly lol.

Once a player has actually reached his potential that is when it is too late to trade for him.

Do you think the Thunder would have traded James Harden if they knew he'd be the best SG in the NBA? No way in hell would they, they would have traded any one else to free up that cap space and would have lost him to FA trying to keep him around.

If Robinson panned out any where else we would have never got him.

If he doesn't pan out here we did not lose a player in our long term future any ways.

Lilliard is clearly the better player than Anthony Davis now.

Patterson is better than most of those guys that went in the top 5 for this season.

The problem is, if you have a chance at such a high-potential player you don't pass on it for a 8th seed in the playoffs.

Even still, The Rockets record without Patterson has been about the same. Again, he wasn't immune to the teams shooting funks. He wasn't a stabilizing player that got this team out of their funks, he was just as susceptible to those funks as any one else on the team was.

The Rockets record might have been decent post-trade, but they have also had an easier schedule than they did before the trade. Only 1 top level opponent in OKC (which they won without the new guys). A few more not so good playoff teams-- GS, MIL, BLK-- and the rest of the opponents all are under .500.

I guess the disagreement here is really how "high-potential" Robinson is. Is he Davis high or is he rookie Patterson high? I am not going to argue with you because it's quite subjective frankly.

    See my reply to topfive.

you said it yourself, if TRob wasn't sucking so bad, we wouldn't get him for PPat.
what else you want me to say? As for this season's playoff run, we can go like this for the next 5 years, however, if we want a championship, we need someone other than PPat, you trade him later, you may get someone worse than TRob (potential wise).

They don't have to be better after the trade, the point is to get as much burn out of DMo and TRob as possible, so we know any one of them can be a build block.
