Potentially good players LOL. Well that trade can grab you a Kevin Love type of player. Chandler Parsons is not going to get much better, Donuts is unproven and Robinson is raw. I'm all for trading potential for proven commodities.
These two things surprise me... Smith is athletic out the wazoo but he's not super efficient like many other players we have gone for. Millsap seems more like a Morey choice, but even he may be over paid for his contributions. Both of them have high PER but I'm not sure that either would help us unless we change our style of play. They both shoot about 31% from 3, not horrible but not awesome. The comment about McHale isn't surprising.. I've been confused with some of the rotations he's used, but then he knows his players and the goal is the playoffs.. some of those rotations may have been to send a message. McHale is old school, I feel like that's a tactic he would use. If the Rockets were in "win now" mode and didn't have the youngest, least experienced team in the league that might be a good idea. I'd rather the Rockets just give their young guys a chance first since they aren't in "win now" mode. TRob is basically a carbon copy of Josh Smith who hasn't yet developed the bad habit of being a volume shooter, DMo is a guy who could very well end up one of the top PF's in the league, and Chandler Parsons is the Rockets best defender and he has a very bright future despite his racial handicap. Why give up on these guys already?
Kevin Love is a stud, that's why. Thomas Robinson needs 3 or 4 years to become anything worth questioning this. Chandler Parsons is not going to get much better than he is now, and is about to command 7-10 million a year. D-Mo potentially can be an allstar but you just don't know. Take Love now, sign another good player via FA. Lin,Love,Harden,Asik???? Add any player and that's an amazing starting lineup. Andre Iggy via FA.
no... 27% for a point guard earlier this season is horrible I would think 31% is probably just below the league average but it's not as bad as it could be.
Is it common thought here that I am a LOF? Because if it is, note my joining date. Signed on here way before Lin signed with the team. I like Lin, I'm certainly not a LOH, but I am a Houston Rockets fan, not a LOF.
Oh, okay haha. Well, I agree, 27% sucked too. But 31% from 3 is pretty bad. Anything under 35% is unacceptable.
Let's see.... The Rockets need a power forward who can space the floor by shooting the 3, and who can rebound. The best player who fits the bill: KEVIN LOVE!
Do we really need a PF who can hit the 3? I'd rather have a PF who can hit the midrange 2 consistently and attack the paint, like a Tim Duncan, Lamarcus Aldridge, or vintage Karl Malone. Isn't that what dominant PF's used to do in the ol' school NBA ?
Do we need one? Not neccesarily. It would just be a great skill for our PF to have for this particular system. Because of Asik, a traditional PF who has no range but great post moves could cause spacing issues for us because Harden and Lin need to penetrate, and having two big men who can't shoot means that defenses can collapse with no worries at all.
As good as Asik is on defense and rebounding, he's a liability on offense and often on the bench in 4th qtr. For that reason He's a super role player and replaceable, especially if you have Smith who can strengthen the defense.
That "super role player" makes the Rockets go from a terrible half court defense to a top half court defense. Do you know any other role players who make that much of a difference to the way a team plays?
Actually, no. You realize 50% from 2 gets you the same amount of points as 33% from 3, right. 2/6 from the 3pt line is 6 points. 3/6 from inside is 6 points. 31% from a big man is actually quite reasonable. Not great. But certainly not bad.
