I do think Brown did Young no favors in regard to not making him learn to take the snap from under the center and read defenses fron there. Young got used to taking the snap from the shotgun and making his decisions with a little more time. Brown out winning over the kid's development knowing the kid would go to the next level unprepared.
when vince young was at ut i specifically remember hearing about him work out with his receivers after practice. dude led the nation in passer rating. money got to him, and yes i'm sure he didn't work as hard as he should have to make the transition. it happens.
http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwest/post/_/id/55947/report-raiders-thinking-about-vince-young Report: Raiders thinking about Vince Young March, 13, 2013 MAR 13 2:20 PM ET By Bill Williamson | ESPN.com RECOMMEND17TWEET35COMMENTS43EMAILPRINT The NFL Network offered an interesting nugget when it reported the Raiders have had preliminary contact with former NFL quarterback Vince Young about a workout. While Young’s name evokes some surprise, I wouldn’t get too hopped up about it. We’re just talking about a workout. If somehow Young does find his way in position to be offered a job in Oakland, it wouldn’t be anything more than a backup gig, whether it is caddying for Carson Palmer or Terrelle Pryor.
pretty sure his record only includes the time he was arrested due to the incident at the strip club in Dallas http://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/2...-in-strip-club-fight-asks-god-to-stave-off-n/
Ah, the fabled "He just wins!" argument. VY can go 3-31 with 21 yards passing, 3 picks and 6 rushes for -3 yards and if your blood has a certain orange tinge to it...we bring up his record. Lets take the 10 JUST WINS TEN got in 2007 for example Week 1 JAX Chris Brown rushes for 175 yards..LenDale White adds 60 Week 3 NO Titans D forces 4 INT....Saints held to 14 points Week 5 ATL VY slightly less awful than Harrington/Leftwich combo despite 3 INT and no TD's Week 7 HOU Kerry Collins at the helm. Week 8 OAK VY an impressive 6-14 for 42 passing and 7 carries for 11 yards Week 9 CAR VY outduels the great David Carr (though Carr was the only one of the two to throw a TD pass) VY 14-23-110 with 2 pics Week 13 HOU- Better performance from VY 21-31 for 248 2 TD's only 1 pic rushed for another 44 yards on only 5 carries Week 15 KC Pretty good performance by VY standards 16-26-191 with 2 TD's....supported by 95 yards out of LenDale White. Week 16 NYJ 12-22-166 no TD's one INT 7 rushes for 1 yard Week 17 IND 14-18-157 no TD's or INT's....But the fact Jim Sorgi and the reserves played a lot had something to do with this. So yeah....they won 9 games with VY at the helm....but most of them he was pretty terrible and the best of them was merely decent.
And, of course, he was a 2nd year QB. Odd that you would go back to 2007 when he played multiple years after that. It's things like this that make the VY-haters just as ridiculous as the other side. If you don't like the "he wins" argument, you could look at his numbers, where he improved his QB rating every year as a starter, ending at 98.6 in his final year (5th best in the league). Vince Young had all sorts of mental problems and physical injury issues. But when he was on the field, he was improving every year and had become pretty good when it finally all felt apart mentally for him. If you ignore the mental, he was a well-above-average QB in the league with a penchant for making clutch plays late in games. The problem is that you can't ignore the mental side, and we have no idea where he is there. But if he got that fixed - and if the physical skills haven't deteriorated - there's no reason he can't succeed in the NFL. Those are a lot of ifs that need to be answered, though.
His career TD to INT ratio is, shall we say, not very good. He also lacks the intangibles like leadership that you need as a QB.
And yet they improved every year, culminating in a 10:3 ratio and 98 QB rating his final year in Tennessee. I don't see why his rookie or second year stats (which were terrible) would be all that relevant when there was clear evidence of progression. Says who? At Texas, his teammates and coaches raved about his leadership role on the team. His early years with the Titans were the same. His last few were more problematic, though people seemed to love him when on the field - the concerns were more when he was injured or benched and handled it extremely poorly. Even going into his final tumultuous season with the Titans, he was selected as a team captain. That doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot, of course, but it doesn't support the claim. It's unclear where he is now on that front, and seems a tad bit speculative and biased to say he lacks those skills now.
