So you're saying that we have 14 starters on defense? (4 CB, 2 S, 4 LB, 4 DL). Now that's foolish. Might as well say we have 15 starters on offense (1 QB, 5 OL, 1 HB, 1 FB, 3 TE, 4 WR) because sometimes we have that many of each position on the field.

Wanting to go after the player, and saying I think it gets done are two entirely different things.

Albert Breer on NFL network said Reed left for an appearance for his foundation but his agents are still here so they could possibly still get it done. Either way, the Texans better draft a safety

The fact that it was leaked to reporters that nothing would happen today would seem to indicate that nothing is close on contract terms.

mikegarafolo: Ravens getting involved in talks with Reed. Much as they've lost guys, they won't let him walk w/o a fight.

Also, Ed Reed texted the things went well and said that the Texans are "real good people".

They're good people, I wish them well, but we couldn't get a deal done. :p

You can send feelers out on other players and even negotiate with other players, but wouldn't officially pull it until Sunday night.

My guess is the hang up is guaranteed money or Reed wants to talk to his family.

I agree with you, the organization shouldn't act like he is signed unless they KNOW he will be signed.

Last night not getting it done, I get... But should have hammered it out at 4 am.

I do think Ed Reed and the Texans both are sincere though, because otherwise AJ really was hung out to dry by Reed.

Ravens "getting involved in talks with Reed". There's the other shoe.

The worst thing about this is not necessarily that he didn't sign, it's that we're left hanging in limbo and are essentially unable to make any more moves until he either signs or walks away (or we decide to pursue other options). Reed's a nice player, but we do have other needs. The deal should be done already and we should be moving on to our next priority, but now we're kind of hamstrung. Sigh.

If Reed really said those things to Andre, came down here for two days and then returns to Baltimore, I sincerely hope a Texan rolls up on him next year the same way Slauson did to Cushing. Ed Reed is really a miserable human being if this goes down.

well if he doesnt sign, its just more and more fuel for the debbiedowner crowd.. the typical anti-houston, quick to reference orlando pace & bodden types..

"the oilers sucked ass so the texans will" crowd, you know them..

You're right, they've been trying to sign him for about a week now, since the negotiation window opened on friday and its only 50-50? Its time to look at other ways to improve this team

It's very easy to say the offer will be on the table until the end of the day then they will need to start looking at other options. That would put the pressure on them to decide they need to take it or leave it because they may not get a better offer later.
