Even though Ed Reed left Houston without a deal, it is still pretty much the Texans "war" to lose when it comes to signing Reed. If anything, the Ravens can be considered a distant second to bringing-back Ed Reed (because of the contract he is looking for); especially now that the 49ers are looking elsewhere for a defensive back and the Patriots actually have no interest in Reed... Being a Ravens fan, you just can't tell what Ed Reed will do next. Ed's gonna do what Ed's gonna do. He's the most unpredictable guy there is. This is my thoughts about it anyways..
Ha. I'm more understanding of the "kiss their feet" approach at the NBA level. When you're talking about pursuing Bosh or another max player, they do have the leverage. Legit stars are in incredibly short supply. Ed Reed and NFL free agency isn't the same situation. I'd like Reed here, sure, but I don't think there's a night-and-day gap between he and Quin, or he and Charles Woodson. There are plenty of alternative options, and good front offices are able to leverage that into concise negotiations.
Same song, different writer; repeating for a 5th time ; ) Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter Ravens S Ed Reed has left Houston to tend to a previous engagement this weekend. Reed and Texans plan to continue talking. Houston Texans @HoustonTexans Free agent S Ed Reed (@TwentyER) has left the building after visiting Reliant Stadium on Thursday & Friday #Texans

Nothing but spin. Everyone on ALL sides of this deal said earlier today that it was "very close". Wilson said it in Baltimore. McClain said it. La Canfora said it. Schefter said yesterday that all signs pointed to a deal getting done Friday. Now, nothing is imminent but talks will continue? Puh-lease. Whatever the Texans are offering isn't enough for Reed to pull the trigger. Something changed and there's no reason for him to leave town without signing unless he fully intends to leverage the Texans' offer into something better somewhere else.
They're pretty stupid to fly a private jet to pick him up and lie out the red carpet and let him leave town with all the leverage. Don't let the sentimental stuff get you, 99% of the time it's about money at the end of the day. We've seen it over and over..
Give him through the weekend. If it is not done by Monday morning move on. There are other free agents out there. Having said that I think it is 75% that he signs. Even though he is an institution in Baltimore, it doesn't seem he wants to be involved with the organization.
Damn we shoulda gone after Kenny Phillips. If Reed gets on a plane and leaves he's not coming back. Ppl are saying because Andre said he wants him, Andre says something like that every year and the Texans never listen to him, how long has Andre been saying he wants a reciever to take some of the heat off him, and how many of those do we have? Exactly, if this Reed thing doesn't work out they should just draft a safety
or nothing changed at all, and we were being played the whole time to drive up price elsewhere <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Dammit, forgot to tweet a pic of Ed Reed leaving Reliant in a busted-ass Pinto with a Texans bumper sticker.</p>— Not Gary Kubiak (@NotGaryKubiak) <a href="https://twitter.com/NotGaryKubiak/status/312642837181247489">March 15, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I'm guessing that it's the Texans that balked at the amount of guaranteed money that Reed is seeking, so they told him to go ahead with his prior engagements, and that they will be in touch. I don't think this is an indictment on the organization at all. We have no idea what Reed was asking for. People seriously need to wait until the smoke clears before they start calling for heads.
So give him 72 more hours to basically hold our cap space hostage and let other FAs come off the market? **** that. Why aren't any other negotiations around the league playing out this long? If I were in charge, I'd give him until tonight, and then pull the deal and move on.
If he signs, GOOD, but if he doesn't sign, he was TOO OLD. We want young JEDI. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...eaves-texans-facility-no-deal-expected-friday
Well no kidding it's about money. Perhaps I'm giving the Texans front office too much credit, but they know not to piss off the face of their franchise. And when the face of the franchise chooses to speak about the situation, they listen. Especially when said face of the franchise doesn't go on the record much if at all, otherwise.
To be clear..I'm not calling for heads...but they're going to look silly if they don't pull close this deal...even though I'm not sure they should close the deal.
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer Reed had a prior engagement to get to, authorized his agent to continue talks w/Hou. So contract discussions are ongoing. No decision yet. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/...eal-talks-continuing-20130315,0,5803889.story http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2013/03/ed-reed-has-left-reliant-stadium/
