I will NEVER forgive Rick Smith if this deal doesn't get done (and it looks like it won't). If Reed is using the Texans as leverage, it's because this incompetent staff lets them.

Deals don't take this long. You don't have to pick them up in your private ****ing jet. You don't have to make a three-day-long publicized drama to pump up his ego. Look at how long it took the Broncos to get something done with Wes Welker, the Eagles with James Casey and Connor Barwin, the Lions with Glover Quin the Patriots with Danny Amendola. Lay out the terms to his agent and say I need a decision by XXX or I'm moving on to my next option.

Instead, the Texans chose the option of kiss the ground he walks on for days, all with apparently no guarantees from the Reed camp and while other notable free agents sign elsewhere. The problem with the Houston Texans runs rampant throughout the organization -- they're nice guys. There's zero killer instinct and ability to make the cutthroat decisions needed to win at a high level. We already knew it was true with the coach and owner, and this episode makes it seem equally true with the GM.

I think some people panic way too easily. When Andre Johnson, Mr. Mild Mannered himself, goes on public record and makes the comments he made about Reed, it's a clear sign to the front office.

It may take a few days, but Reed will be a Texan when the smoke clears.

This whole thing will end up being a net zero swap losing Quin and adding Reed. What are they really doing to improve the team that last left the field?

If he leaves he's not coming.

If a contract is not signed they need to call Charles Woodson immediately to see if he can act as a stop gap while we develop a later round draft pick to replace him next season.

Reed is not using the Texans as leverage. He legitimately respects Andre Johnson, and has family hours away in New Orleans. The same family that is calling and begging him to come to Houston.

Second, just because it didn't happen today, does not make it less likely a deal gets done. Give it a few days and he's going to be introduced in battle red. Andre Johnson's comments are pretty clear, if you ask me. The organization might be stupid, but they aren't that stupid.

I agree. You get flown in on owner's jet...and you leave without a deal? Sorry...I don't see it happening.

I had a feeling he wasn't going to sign as soon as pancakes made it sound like a done deal. Guys a jinx.

Damn! You're right. They should have given him an IPAD with a presentation on it and drove some rowdy fans in a Toyota to Baltimore.

Talks between the Texans and Ed Reed are expected to continue over the weekend as he returns to Atlanta. No deal is imminent
