Now that we have lost the top 3... I think that AJ, Smith, and Joseph should restructure for more cap space. Look to cut Tate, and I would not mind seeing Brandon Harris walk for his cap room. Maybe we sign Reed. Then maybe look to bring in some OL depth, a new DT, and a WR. Thoughts?
His value peaked before last season, so we probably wouldn't get anything for him by way of draft picks now. However, his cap hit for this season is pretty much inconsequential, so I don't see why we would cut him now. His highest value simply comes as being Foster's backup.
I'm wary of restructuring guys, my understanding if it is that you're setting yourself up for bigger problems with the cap later.
The way the Texans did it the offseason they signed Joseph was they wait until after the FA moves and then restructured deals to make it work. Remember how Pancakes was shocked to learn about restructuring after he spent the offseason saying they couldn't sign anyone?
Boldin played most of this year for a Superbowl team and he was only worth a 6th round pick...Tate has ZERO trade value, especially for the money he is due.
Smith has to be restructered/extended this year. You can probably hold off on JoJo's until next year along with AJs. Doesn't make any sense trading Tate. He won't get you much because his value is down and he is a good backup RB. Hopefully he has a bounceback year while trying to convince other teams to open up the pocket book.
