Look at Kevin Durant, you really need muscle?!?!?!? DMo, imo should just work on footwork and improve his agility by working his lean muscle.

There are less than 12 player who has ever averaged 22/10 per game after 2000. If you talk about Per 36, there are less than 10 player with 22/10 who play more than 20min per game after 2000

    Yao's TRB: 8.2 9.0 8.4 10.2 9.4 10.8 9.9 5.4
    TRB per 36 career 10.2

Dmo should work on his dark meat muscle. He needs to cut himself open ala terminator to find where it's at first.

This would be relevant if ppg average had anything to do with rebounding?

7.5 is the number I'm interested in. Average at least 7.5 boards (once he gets starters' minutes), and I'll be happy. And I think he can do that.

Yao's presense has more impact than indicated by his reb numbers. In the head to head matches with DWH, yao pretty much still 'only' get 10 rebs a game, but he boxed out DWH very well - DWH usually just get 7-8 rebs a game against him. Yao 'defended' the rebounding game very well.

There will always be a fine line between strength and speed. Honestly D-Mo can use a bit more muscle to bulk him up so he can be more effective in the low-post. But if he was to add too much and weigh himself down too much, it'll have a negative impact on his mobility.
With less mobility he'll be slower in the post, slower at getting to his shooting spots which means a decrease in production from both his stretch position and down low.
I think it's best for him to put on another 20-30 pounds, get him to the 250/260s, but we want that to be on his overall frame and not unevenly weighted.

    I think DMo's already around 245 lbs.

I wholeheartedly believe d Mo will average 7.5 by the middle of next year as long as he continues to start for us

Alright, let's get this straight about DMo's rebounding.

As many have mentioned when defending Morris or PPatt previously, it's really hard to grab a high # of rebounds when playing next to Asik. So it might be unfair to set an arbitrary number to judge DMo's rebounding performance by.

Rather why not just look at how many rebounds are missed/offensive rebounds allowed while DMo is on the floor?

My beef with Morris or PPatt wasn't that they only grabbed 5-6 rebounds. It's that they failed over and over again to box their man out and prevent offensive rebounds/putback dunks/tip-ins.

How about we just let the guy play a season first?

Yao was weak AND slow. Thats why he needed to bulk up. You cant be both and expect to play at a high level. DMo is quick enough to make it without bulking up much more. He is more dirk than yao.

And rebounding is much more than something so specific as forearm strength. Technique, presence, intuition/reaction, he needs to work on it all to be a better rebounder.

FWIW, forearm strength wouldnt even help that much. Your ability to hold on to the ball comes from further into the body than just the forearms. He's not gripping it like a pencil. It is a different movement, more compound, which means more, and other, muscles are involved

Who was the last big man to dramatically increase their rebounding rate? Rebounding, like court vision, might just be an innate skill. Either you have it or you don't. Unfortunately, DMo doesn't have it right now.

Yao, had high arches which was a double negative for his size. I think D-Mo can safely add 30 lbs of muscle. But the emphasis should be on strength. Heck he lost weight but added strength that would be a good thing as well.

Yao could still be playing right now. JVG ruined his longevity by making him gain weight which increased pressure on his legs because he was so heavy, causing the injuries

He rebounded pretty well in Euroleague, so I imagine that has to translate over to the NBA at some point.
