As Glover Quin spoke with media in Detroit talking about his new five-year contract, I was on the phone with his agent, Michael Hoffman, who provided a bit of odd news.

“Texans never made an offer on Glover Quin,” Hoffman said. “We talked preliminary numbers at the combine, conceptually we talked about numbers but they never made an official offer.”

Hoffman said Houston wasn’t a contender for Quin today. Quin held a press conference in Detroit this afternoon and his comments hinted at the divide between he and the Texans. When asked how hard the Texans pursued him, Quin deflected.

“I’m really not here to talk about the Texans,” Quin said. “I’m here to talk about the Lions signing me and I’m really happy. They were very interested and they did what they had to do. They said the things I wanted to hear and I’m happy to come in and help out and I’m a Detroit Lion.”

Texans 2009 Draft Class Second Contract Status

    Cushing - TBD(2014)
    Barwin- TBD
    Caldwell- TBD
    Quin- 5y/25 mil?
    Hill- Out of league
    Casey- 3y/14.5 mil
    McCain- TBD
    Nolan- status unknown

Depending on what Barwin, McCain, and Caldwell fetch, and what Cush gets next year, the Texans 2009 draft class has to be up there in regards to second contract status.

Who was it that said our priority was re-signing Quin, Barwin, Casey, and McCain? Did Smith or Kubes actually say that or was that just Pancakes?

Looks like a bunch of BS. I would call it a smoke screen but it's not like they've be active on the FA market so far and whatever type of misdirection they might've been trying to use is irrelevant now that our top 3 FA's are gone and we still haven't made a move yet.

Either Smith is incompetent or he lied about trying to keep our FA's just to lie. Maybe he just wanted to fool the fans and didn't anticipate an agent spilling the beans on the lack of a Houston offer.

    Rick Smith responds:

“We had preliminary discussions with his agents at the combine,” Smith said. “We had conversations with them last week and made an attempt to get a deal done before the three-day window. We spoke with them today and had conversations with them right up until they took the deal with Detroit.”

Nowhere in his statement does he say they made an offer. Pancakes was wrong

Quinn's pass coverage skills are over rated. I am sure we have something else in mind. Quinn is a good solid player but not elite. I can understand him being upset, but glad we didn't over pay. Lets see how he likes being a Lion.

Quin is solid. My only fear about letting him go was that I doubted the Texans would be willing to pay for an upgrade and would instead go for a player in the draft. If they are really serious about signing Ed Reed, I'm fine with this.

They'll still need to draft a safety though.

There are a lot of solid safeties left in free agency. I'm not worried about losing Quin, he's not worth the money the Lions gave him.

It sucks bc I want him to stay but it really has nothing to do w his play on the field... The dude just flat out reps htown all the time. Always run into him at shows and restaurants... Guy is a great ambassador for the city.

Because he drafted players in the mid to late rounds that panned out? We might end up with a better secondary is how I'm looking at it.

I don't know about that. Wade Smithpublicly stated that he wants Connor back no matter what so I think the Texans will at least make an offer, second I thought Connor was at the big east tournament right now, so you might've saw a look a like
