All the pomp and circumstance related to the Pope, the sexual molestation crises, the alleged bank scandal at the Vatican...does anybody else find Catholics to be embarrassing to other Christians? Maybe I'm just regurgitating what Martin Luther figured out almost 500 years ago...

    ^ note to texxxxxxx

Reformation trolling peaked in the 16th century.

Move on to the next topic: Jacobites are an embarrassment to the House of Stuart! Long live William of Orange!

I don't know, but I prefer the jokes about baptists.

see, I mentioned Martin Luther already in my original post, which lessens the comedic value of you coming in with the Reformation trolling joke. Please up your game, SamFisher, I'm having to instruct you on the very basics here.

Let's not forget that in the United Sates alone the Catholic Church educates more than 2.5 million students, saving the American taxpayers 18 billion a year. The Catholic Church operates a non profit hospital system of 637 hospitals which treats 20% of the patients in the U.S. every day. Another example is that Catholic Charities in Chicago provides over 6000 meals daily and this is repeated in cities throughout the country.

I'm baptised Catholic, but I have been attending non-denominational churches for over 10 years now.

To answer your question though, no I don't find myself embarassed by them. Do I agree with everything they do/say? Of course not, but I don't find myself being embarassed by them.

I am absolutely PROUD to be a Catholic, and my faith is not defined by the actions of a few.

Agreed. Should Rice University graduates be embarrassed that their original charter said they would educate white students.

I disagree. SamFisher's was pretty damn good. I even learned something from it.

Just a side question, where does the Catholic Church get the money for all this? Do they run entirely on donations?

Depends on the particular service. Some would be donations. Others, like hospitals, would be funded by fees charged to the users.

Major responded, but they also use their money and invest to make money. In addition, schools charge tuition to help pay for facilities and salaries.

Are you saying a few million clergy participated in the sex scandal?

US diplomats indicated Pope Francis was "suitable to the Ratzinger camp" at the last conclave. Interesting.

I dunno, but I changed my profile pic on a popular social networking site to the pope pic Rodman23 posted in UNSORTED and it already drew out two "Facebook friends" who wrote that I should be ashamed of myself, etc. I find these people quite embarrassing :).
