And now Lions web site just tweeted Detroit has a five-year deal with former Texans S Glover Quin. Glad they saw things my way..

I like how you left out GQ from that. I'd say he had a significant impact. Over the course of the entire season, he was arguably the 2nd best player on the defense.

They had real holes before they lost Glover..with limited means to address them. Now they have yet another hole...but the same limited means to address them.

No he's not. DieHard Rocket said it best: you don't build long-term contenders overpaying for good/not great talent like Glover Quinn. Everyone needs to keep in mind: he was a middling CB until Wade Phillips got here - anyone remember Wade Phillips?

In terms of properly managing the cap, safety is arguably the least important position on your team. Would you rather have Quin or future money to resign Kareem Jackson? Brian Cushing? JJ Watt? It's a no-brainer. Quin will be missed; he was a fine player. But he wasn't Ed Reed.

They have, what? Seven draft picks? And once the flurry of overpayment settles down, a slew of cheap veterans to choose from on the free agent market.

They'll be fine. Safeties don't win games in the NFL...

Yeah, I hear ya. I think their window is really limited though...and may have already truly passed them by. And I don't see them adequately being able to fill these needs for immediate impact from the draft with rookies.

You're right, but they help not lose games though.

    ask the Broncos.

They might as well cut Manning and start fresh at the safety positions

I guess the plus side is that it seems like a TON of quality players have been cut in the last 48 hours. Add them to unsigned FA's, and there might be a decent amount of solid guys left on the scrap heap who have to play for pennies

Maybe we have to pursue this avenue to fill all the holes

I almost threw up at the thought of Keo starting. I mean draft Rambo from Georgia and sign a strong safty that can cover, I like Louis Delmas

Quin was a 4th round CB, guys - let's show a *little* perspective.

Now that Glover Quin is signing with the Lions, Texans will turn their attention to another veteran safety to replace him.

There is no need to panic, but GQ was/is a very good safety and certainly leaves a void that needs to be filled. It's certainly not impossible and safety is probably one of the best spots to try and reload at.. But still, it's a little disappointing to lose a quality guy
